There's a word for animals that actually hibernate all winter and bears aren't that.

Bears are more like raccoons. I think the word is somulent.

If a bear doesn't find enough food by the time it's time to den up they won't. If it's really cold they'll hibernate but if it warms up they will come out of their den and look for food.
