When I was growing up, any guy pretending to be a girl so he could play on the girl's team would have been laughed out of the neighborhood... not to say our school ..
what a HUGE difference in generations..
back in my youth, if a guy "pretended" to be a girl right off the bat, you'd know what kind of guy "he was"...
and was teased a lot for it too......the other guys in the gym locker room would make sure he did NOT go into the showers
of course others in school, or at the job, would stay away from "him", and "he" was an outsider, where if "he" was lucky, only "his" mother would still talk to "him"...and maybe a few girls, due to feeling sorry for "him"
most fathers disowned such "sons", in shame, and in total fear of repercussions from fellow workers, and friends.
back in those days of my youth, you had better be a real boy, or a full grown man.
