9mm Shootout: XD Mod.3 vs. Echelon 4.0C

Hi,

I guess I'd agree with Mr. Abraham's critique. I have the XD9, XD9 Mod.3, and Echelon 4.5F Comp. I think they're all great. I do wish the Echelon had the grip safety. At some point in the near future I'll be changing the sights on my Echelon. I don't care for the rear U-notch. That's just me. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I got my Echelon a few weeks ago during the Gear-Up promo. I don't have any XD save for my XDE and XDM-40. The latter can be ignored as we're talking compacts here, not duty-sized. My XDE is pretty darn slim, considering it's a single stack. I like the fiber optic front sight, it helps me focus on what matters. But the Echelon has that and more - the front sight also has tritium. All of that co-witnesses with the RDS, which I found needed to be adjusted after shooting my first mag.
If after a while I don't care for the red dot, I can still put the cover plate on. However, I'm willing to give the optics a try. I was raised on iron sights and that's all I've ever used on a pistol till now. Only time will tell. But I absolutely do NOT regret getting the Echelon... Chassis pistols are the future!

HE TOTALLY SKIPPED OVER THE MOST RECENT XD UPGRADE FOR THE SPRING FIELD HANDGUN COMPARISON; THE XDM-E. THE XDM ELITE WITH MATCH BARREL AND IMPROVED TRIGGER IS THE LATEST XD UPGRADE AND THE ECHELON IS A DIFFERENT WEAPON IN THE SPRING FIELD LINE UP...

And here I was thinking we'd get a head-to-head report of how they performed on the range. I can read myriad articles on the specifications and go down to my local and fondle them each for a visual and tactile comparison. After all, it's far more expensive for me to purchase both and have my own private bake off than it is for the article to weigh in on the author's performance shooting each with a variety of ammo.

Maybe next time...

Since Springfield owns the patent, why not use the Variable Interface System across all their handgun systems with optics cuts? Only makes since to me and would prevent having to buy plates. oh, and lets not forget when ordering a plate, better order the screws separately since plates do not come with screws. Ask me how I know. It cost me more days wait and another shipping fee. Love the Echelons. Bought the original and then the comp. Of course, I bought a few days before the promo for a bag and extra mags. Sorry, no retro
