Hi,
After dropping off Mrs. BassCliff at the airport, it's time for this old guy to party! I just wanted to make a quick trip to the closer/older range to spend some quality time with the Echelon 4.5F Comp. I arrived earlier than usual but, (phooey!), somebody had reserved lane #10 (my favorite lane).
The the nice young man behind the counter gave me lane #8 (my favorite!). I think he let me use that one because of the way I shoot.
I had a plan today for my 100 rounds of S&B 124 grain. I practiced with 10-shot strings, loading only 10 cartridges in each magazine.
No, I have not yet cleaned my Echelon. By now it's got at least 600 rounds through it. Maybe I'll clean it soon, maybe not. It had no failures today. Since there was just one other guy on the range when I started, I began my session with a 10-10-10 drill. Timed, from low-ready, 10 shots at 10 yards in under 10 seconds. I was really hoping for a score of 90 or better, but drat! This drill is difficult to run cold.
Time was pretty good but accuracy was lousy. I suppose if I was shooting at a man-sized target at 10 yards I would've done some damage. I used to be able to to put most of the hits in the black. Maybe I'll devote one session to nothing but 10-10-10 drills and try to get my mojo back.
So moving on, I decided to continue my session with the 1/3 size USPSA silhouettes. As you can tell, they are about 10"x6" and the "A" box is about 3.5"x2". I like these targets because, in general, the bullseye area has a little more black-and-white contrast that's easier for me to see. I'm going to try to get 10 hits in the "A" box. Here's target #1.
Um, sure. Well, at least they're all on the paper. For Mr. @SimonRL, I know I post a lot of targets. That's because I shoot a lot of 10-shot strings. It helps me keep track of which sight picture/hold works with which pistol. Yeah, that's it. Here's target #2.
Well, that's about the same. It's obvious that sight picture is not working for me. Let's try something a little different and pay attention to my trigger press this time. Here's target #3.
Yes, there are 10 shots on this target. I guess I got a few bullets in the same hole. Except, of course for that one low-left flyer. Drat. But my sight picture seems to have improved the accuracy a bit. Let's try to refine that and see how it affects target #4.
Those hits seem more centered. If you give me the line breaks there are actually 6 hits in the "A" box. I'll keep that sight picture/hold and try one more target. Here's #5.
Well, still fairly centered but the spread is still too much. Let's switch gears and stick on a reactive circle. Those are always fun. Here's the first one.
Wow, that's quite a difference. Why haven't I been shooting like that the whole session? That's 10 hits but I see only 6 holes. I think that deserves a glam shot.
I'm going to patch this up and try it again, just to make sure that wasn't a fluke.
Here's reactive target #2.
OK, there's a little more spread but I think all those hits would've been in the black (the 9-ring) on that B-8 target. Now that I've got some fundamentals worked out with the Echelon, I wanted to have some more fun with it. But I had told myself that I wanted to practice some single hand shooting. So, here's 10 hits using my Strong Hand Only, primary hand, my right hand. Whatever.
Again, not marksmanship quality but I think I would've hurt someone. Let's try again with my Weak Hand Only, secondary hand, support hand, my left hand. Whatever.
OK, I think I did a little better with my left hand than my right. Hmm. Only three hits out of the black. And I'll be danged if I didn't put a bullet through that bullet-proof yellow center on this target.
That was my quick 100 rounds through the Echelon. I think I might do this again tomorrow, maybe at the newer range. Until then, thanks for hanging out. Should I clean this pistol any time soon? Will it shoot better for me? Who knows? I'm just having my fun. Y'all come back now, ya hear?
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
