Hornady Ceitical Duty is excellent for 4” or longer barrels. For anything else 124 HET (standard or plus p doesn’t matter) Indianapolis PD uses 124 HST and gives dirt nap room temperature to about everyone they shoot. KS State Troopers, Texas DPS US Marshals and FBI use Critical Duty and same they dirt nap about everyone.

124 Gold Dot is also a great choose as NYPD has proven.

Find one that feeds and works in your gun

Critical Defense can under penetrate, and can have feed issues with some pistols (including XD’s).

I’d consider something like Federal HST, Speer Gold Dot, Winchester PDX1/Defender (or Ranger-T if you can find it), or Remington Golden Saber…even a Hornady XTP over them.

Either way, be sure to vet your chosen carry load by putting at least a couple magazines worth through it.
