NERD post: Let's talk about password managers...

If you're already using a password manager, and you're happy with it, move along. This post isn't for you! Unless that password manager is "LastPass" which is NOTORIOUSLY insecure.

If any of the following apply to you, then you need to keep reading:

  1. You use one or two password for EVERYTHING
  2. You keep your passwords written down and in your pocket or purse
  3. You keep your passwords on a post-it note next to your monitor
  4. You keep your passwords in an Excel spreadsheet
  5. You let your browser store your passwords for you
  6. You use the same email address/username for all of your logins
Passwords are like underwear: Nobody should ever see them, they should never be shared, and they should be changed often.

But with our digital lives, it gets complicated. We need passwords for EVERYTHING. Throw in 2-factor requirements and pretty soon your digital life is an absolute nightmare. This is where quality password managers come to the rescue.

If you don't have one, you're in trouble. And you're a sitting duck. If you fall (even loosely) into any of the points I listed above, you're in far more danger than you realize. How much trouble are you in? Arkansas State Police is behind you, and you have a BAC of .30 and you're carrying a firearm. That's how much trouble you're in.

The digital world is getting more and more dangerous every day. And all it takes is one incident, and you're screwed. You lost it all.

This is where quality password managers come in. Most of them are free, but even the paid ones aren't too expensive. You can get family plans and share certain passwords with family members.

All of the good password managers have the following features in common:

  • They FULLY ENCRYPT your data, so even they can't see it.
  • They all have apps for every browser, operating system, phone, and tablet.
  • They offer 2FA support
  • They offer cryptographically strong password generation
  • They auto-fill your passwords on the page or app you're using
  • They have offline support
Personally, I use the family plan with Proton Pass (the same people that make Proton Mail) because it allows me to create email addresses on the fly. Those emails forward to my real email address, so I can still see them, but they are only used once. If someone gets the address and abuses it, I simply turn it off. If I need it again? I turn it back on.

And if the bad guys manage to hack into a site and they get my email and password? Well, then at least they don't have access to anything else in my life, because the email address and password that I use here, is used nowhere else in the world. In fact, I couldn't even tell you what my email address and password is for THIS FORUM because my password manager, well, manages it for me.

Of the hundreds and hundreds of passwords I have for my daily personal (and professional) life, not one single password is used more than once, and not one single user name or email address is used more than once. And NO SITE has my actual email address.

There are a lot of popular password managers out there. Here are a few:

  • Proton Pass (my choice)
  • 1Password
  • Dashlane
  • Bitwarden
  • KeyPassX (if you prefer to keep your passwords offline)
I recommend that you do your research, find the password manager that jives best with you, and start getting your digital life SECURE RIGHT NOW!

Of course, you are free to ask me if you need advice or have questions.

Sincerely,
-Your friendly neighborhood programmer / silly goose

If you don’t mind my likely stupid questions i will certainly have questions soon! Hopefully getting the set up i purchased in a couple of weeks. Not looking to save really, just like the idea of creating “my precious” and getting the most awesome rounds possible 😂. thinking of trying out the .223 cutdown and resize to 300blk.

i haven't tried to resize 5.56 to 300bo, but dillon (iirc) offers dies (or something like that) to do so?

my guess is to take the 5.56/223 brass and fl size it in a 300bo die 1st then run it thru a neck only die. knowing someone with an AMP machine will make it very fast and easy.

I remember your post about acquiring reload equipment. Please post throughout your journey for us thinking of doing the same. Good luck brother.
