Federal’s Personal Defense HST 44 Magnum

The new Personal Defense HST .44 Magnum loads are part of Federal’s latest push to keep improving its self-defense lineup. The idea is that they wanted to build a load that hit harder than a .44 Special, but still allowing the shooter to have improved control and less overpenetration than a full-powered hunting load.

I'll have to get some for my 329PD to see how it feels/shoots in it.

I typically use 44 Special in it for practice & self-defense purposes since I only use reg 44 mags in it when on wlak-about in the woods.
Should be decent in a 329. It’ll kick but not like a full power round. Still a heavy slug traveling at a pretty good clip. Fed says it hits harder than a .357 or a 10. So good power.

This is a niche load.

If your a 44 mag owner having a box or two (I'll get two) of this is handy to have otherwise you're other option is a JHP 44 Special load.

Federal should be thanked for offering this since I imagine it won't be a high production load/offering.

A .44 just fits a unique niche. I’ve shot ‘em for a lot of years. One time I CC’d a 4 5/8” SBH for a couple weeks just to see if I could. I do have a 69 Smith that conceals well in a pancake under a T shirt. Not EDC, but when hiking in the toolies, esp in the Rockies, yeah, not a bad option. Normally I’m not carrying full boat .44 mags, so these Federal loads would be nice to have imho.

Well , it would default fill the ( mainstream ) void left by the discontinued Gold Dot Short Bbl .44 Mag load .

If it improves or even matches that GD SB remains to be seen . ( Or Underwood. 44 Spl +P ) .

Yeah , everything is stupid expensive these days . But $55 / 20 rds is mindlowing stupid expensive.
