Why do people canoe in gator infested water?

My parents live on Lake Conway. The lake is in the middle of a 5 - 7 year rehabilitation and is currently (mostly) drained and the 'gaters have reportedly worked their way to nearby Grassy Lake or the Arkansas River.

With regards to the OP's question of why would they canoe there, it's not really that uncommon. We have gaters in Arkansas and I've kayaked in their vicinity many times, along with cottonmouths and other nefarious critters. You have to keep a wary eye out and steer clear. Sounds to be from the article that they may have panicked and dumped themselves in the water.

No this was just plain stupidity, it won't happen to me sort of thing. OH I got a paddle, I'll be fine .....


I watched a YouTube video once where a lady was walking a small dog next to a lake. The water exploded and poof in an instant the gator grabbed the dog on the leash and darn near drag the lady in the lake as well, of course she was sitting there pulling on the leash like she was going to get her little doggy back. LMAO Luckily the gator snatched the leash out of her hands and settled back into the lake. Some guy come running out and told the lady to get away from the lake the gator was going to come and get her next if she wanted to stand there and be stupid.

I was in tears laughing so hard!
I mean for god sakes, you live in Gator country if you go down there walking your tiny dog next to the the lake where you know darn well there's Gators in there.
