Dead Giveaways You’re About To Be Attacked

not too many "dead" giveaways in that article. So, here's a few the author missed - person crossing over towards your "walk lane", person nervously fidgeting while eyeing you up and down, person moving to intercept your intended point of travel, person putting one or both hands in pockets while stopping ahead or near your intended path, person moving to block your intended path to doorway, stairway or your vehicle.

I'm going to say what I say every time this topic comes up. I worked as a security guard for 15 years. I basically people watched for a living and I got pretty good at it.

Over time I've observed certain behavior patterns that when I see them I know that person is up to something.

If I see somebody just aimlessly loitering someplace where there's really no reason for them to be loitering they're almost always doing something they're not supposed to be doing.

Another one that is somewhat specific to being a security guard is when just my presence changes their behavior. If the aimless loiterer watches me come around the corner making my rounds and he takes off he was up to something.

BUT if I come walking around the corner and the aimless loiterer becomes laser focused on what I'm doing, I'm probably the target which connects to the last one which IMO is the most important

If someone is paying an inordinate amount of attention to you, you had better be paying attention to them because it's been my experience but they're sizing you up and deciding whether or not you're a mark. Even if it's just to put the mooch on you for a couple of bucks.

Those are kind of the same thing.

Actually happened to me one night.

I was walking my dog and a guy across the street changed his direction of travel straight at me.

I turned to face him and put my hand in my pocket (on my gun).

He stopped and turned 90°from his direction of travel and walked away.

For all I know it was pure coincidence.

Always look at the eyes.
You know, all the joking I’ve made in this thread aside—

This.

I’ve had more than one instance in my life where someone is obviously tracking me, etc..

I can’t explain it beyond you JUST KNOW.

So far, it’s always worked for me to lock eyes with them—let them know that I know, and that I’ll dance if they want to…but I’m gonna call the tune.

It works for me, I guess. Maybe I’m wrong, and there’s random folks who think about that one a-hole, that one time…

But I don’t think I was wrong.

+100.

I've had to do this a few times.

Most notable, I was in Portland, OR for a training session in the early 2000's, was staying downtown and once I checked in I decided to go for a walk on the River Front Trail. Going along I noticed a gang of youths about 100 yds away.

They saw me and rushed up. They (I saw that they were feral when they got to me) were led by a "crazy-eyed" young gal. We stared each other down while I was going thru the check-list.

She then decided I wasn't worth the trouble even though they had me out-numbered. She gave some order and the gang ran off to their original location.

I continued on with my walk while having my situation awareness pegged in the red zone. There were no more incidents.

-----------------

More recently, I was leaving a store a young (looked under-aged) gal with a baby approached me. She couldn't speak English but held out a s-phone with an app open asking for a cc tap donation.

I indicated I wouldn't do anything & continued to my truck. Then a rig with out-of-state plates pull up behind my truck and the driver (much older than her), who looked like an ISIS recruiter, stared me down thru the windshield. I stared him down, he said something in Arabic-like language and the young gal with baby got in.

I always park pointing out so not to get blocked in, and after a couple of more minutes of him staring at me they took off.

Always have your situation awareness radar on, and plan for any exit/incident if conditions are leaning that way.
