Finally…finally, finally, finally, got back to the range today, been a minute. Decided to haul these two out of the safe. Wilson Combat EDC x9, fitted with original irons, my currently longest owned gun, and CZ Shadow 2 Carry, wearing a Holosun EPS Carry 6 MOA green, my newest gun.
Each gun will be shooting two rounds of my favorite drill (on a single target for each gun), which is as follows:
3 yds - 5 rounds each, left shoulder then right shoulder, slow fire
5 yds - 10 rounds center fast as comfortable with aiming
7 yds - 10 rounds center fast as comfortable with aiming
15 yds - 5 rounds center, slow fire
Back to 3 yds - five strings of 2 to center, 1 to head fast as possible, with aiming
All rounds fired were Federal American Eagle, 124g FMJ, with a muzzle FPS of 1150.
Up first is the Wilson Combat EDC x9 with irons - mainly because I know my eyes get tired as I shoot longer and it only seemed fair. Front sight is a green tritium with orange outline (came with gun at purchase).
First drill - 50 rounds. Not too shabby for 67 year old eyes and irons. Probably could have tightened up those shoulder shots a bit with a little effort.
Then second drill with EDC x9 with same target. Most of those outside the center box were likely at 15 yds, irons, old eyes and all that. One thing that really sucked over all was that there was not one single lock back on empty magazine across 10 different magazines, 5 - 15 rounders and 5-18 rounders. On the plus side, no malfunctions.
Up next was the newest addition to Lab4Us’ gun safe(s). CZ Shadow 2 Carry, wearing a Holosun EPS-Carry 6 MOA Green.
First drill (this trip), new target. I like it!
Second drill with CZ, same target as first CZ run. I REALLY like it! Probably got a little too confident using RDS at 15 yds with those misses high and to the right. Misses is likely a relevant term as I bet they’d hurt even outside the square
.
I don’t think it’s a secret which gun I’ll prefer going forward. In all fairness, I suspect my EDC x9 target would be much better with an RDS on the gun…but I’m not sending it in to Wilson Combat to make that happen. And I’m still comfortable that I can use it efficiently with irons. All in all, a good range day! One of these days I have to get my Emissary and Hellcat back out there!
