Steven Carter was loading his truck in the Walmart parking lot when he saw a man cut a woman’s throat with a knife.
About five minutes later, the man was surrounded by shoppers in the parking lot, including one who was holding a gun. The group of five or six people kept yelling to the man “drop the knife,” he said, and the man responded: “I don’t care, I don’t care.” He kept backing away from the crowd, before someone tackled and subdued him.
“At first, it was disbelief. I thought maybe it was like a terror attack,” said Carter, who delivers customer orders from Walmart. “And then it was fear, disbelief, shock. And that was, it was just amazing. And it all happened fast. Like he was totally subdued on the ground by the time police arrived.” from AP

Something like this is why I always give dirty looks when someone says "how paranoid do you have to be to carry a firearm with you just to go to the grocery store?"
The "Tops" shooting in Buffalo is one example. This looks to be another one. My guess - and just FWIW - mental issues, and therefore confrontational. Maybe even homeless and wandered into Wally World. Personally, I’m color blind to crime.

How do you represent the core values of the Democratic Party?
I am a strong proponent for sustainable environmental stewardship supporting Green Energy goals both as a City Commissioner and Light & Power board member. In Traverse City we have an actual vote of the people supporting equal rights for LGBTQIA+ people and I proudly stand by that and want Traverse City to be seen as a safe place for all people to live, work, and thrive. I support women's reproductive freedom- though it is not usually a City issue, it is something I will always stand for. At the end of the day, I find Democratic Party values to be the values for best governance in a country created to give equal opportunities to all.

For those talking about being armed. It was an armed citizen that helped apprehend the suspect.
And for the “he should have shot him yada” NOBODY HERE KNOWS WHAT THAT ARMED CITIZEN saw. Was there rule 4 issues that kept the citizen for shooting safely? We just don’t know
A knife attack is different while there might or might not be some screaming there’s not obvious indicators that show up like someone blasting rounds so unless you see it or even know what to look for (how many of you have really seen someone that knows what they are doing or anyone for that matter stab or slice someone? I’m betting not a lot of folks that want to add commentary on what “they would do” ) and watching YouTube doesn’t really prepare one for that. So the OODA Look will or can be a little longer.
And what was the scene like when it looked like a group had the suspect circled? Again nobody knows.
While yes nobody would loose sleep if someone like that gets killed by a good guy just having a gun on you doesn’t mean you 100% are gonna be able to use it. Be wrong in a situation and you’re in prison and the anti 2A cause has a stat.

Crime has always been and always will be present. Why prisons, jails and law enforcement exist.
It’s just now ever present news due to technology.

If you look at crime rates in the 29’s through the 70’s today is pale in comparison.
Heck look at how much more brutal some of the inmates were within the Federal prison system. Out of 28 staff killed all but a couple were killed at US Penitentiaries like USP Lewisburg, Leavenworth Atlanta Lompoc and Marion (2 the same day by 2 separate inmates) to recently Atwater and Cannon.
There were some real monsters roaming the country in the 1900’s.
Many ended up at MCFP Springfield, while there have been "issues" in the past there has never been a serious staff incident, knock on wood. Evil has become more sophisticated over the decades.
I did several trips from USP Terre Haute through Marion to Springfield. Did my initial FLETC Firearms Instructor course at Springfield and my Aunt and Uncle retired there . I sort of kick myself for not transferring thwre. Was a great area. My first SORT LT was there and delt with Gotti and I was there after he died whem SORT was activated because they had a serious threat against the Warden from the family that he didn’t do enough. After about 3 months the Warden said screw it he didn’t like the plain clothes SORT guys everywhere. There’s stories some guys had to go to the wife’s colon cleanse appointments….thats for anither time! LOL
And like a li of that intel it just went away!

My general impressions from occasional visits over the years is that in Traverse City crime had generally been low in violent crime and higher in property crimes. I have never felt overly concerned there, but, I do not live there nor probably visit the lower income areas. I know there is a healthy illicit drug trade from articles in the news from there.
It is generally a tourist town with both summer and winter sports, especially skiing, and a large Tribal run casino. There is always a large influx of visitors during cherry festival time. Have always gotten the impression wages were on the lower to medium side.

Anybody but me notice the Lack of national media attention this got? Now if he’d Shot 11, it would have been headlines and the media would be screaming. As noted, mental illness is rampant, and as a society we do darn little to keep the dangerous ones off the street. Give ‘em pills, they straighten up, turn ‘em loose, they quit the pills and are back in trouble among the populace.
