WEED

My time in L.E., back 50+-30+ years ago, started with MJ being pretty weak stuff, smoked mostly by the “preppie” Anglos to be cool. Hard stuff at the time was heroin PCP, LSD and uppers. By the time I was retired, grass was much more powerful, and horse had been replaced by coke, tranc, and meth. The winos of the 70s were replaced by coke freaks and meth heads. There have always been DUI drivers, but the advent of hard drugs, and later the high THC grass were making things much worse. I grew tired of talking to those causing collisions and hearing they say, “Hey man, everything is cool” after they had just killed someone. Don’t matter what the drug of choice, murdering someone is never “cool”. Glad I was retired when I did.

I know this an old thread, and I may have said this elsewhere on this site....

My now ex-wife has genetically horrible spine issues. She just had her 4th spinal surgery a month ago (3 fusions and one cyst-removal). She has had 2 surgeries this year (to-date). She has taken opioids as prescribed many times, and was/is fearful of addiction, given her propensity for sever spinal surgeries. Weed has been a viable and effective alternative for her. Admittedly weed is 100% illegal in this state, but she has chosen to take that risk. I have smoked it....it is not for me....puts me right to sleep. I'd rather drink bourbon. But for her, it is a rational medical decision, and I agree (for her specific case). Given how well it has worked for her, I have no illusions that this is a clear-cut issue. While I may be a far right-winger, this is one issue where I am clearly divergent from that platform.

I might add that alcohol is doing me far more harm than weed is doing to her, post-divorce. Now where did I put my glencairn...?
There is a huge difference between taking THC products (smoke, tablets, liquids etc) for real medical issues and taking THC for entertainment.
I am in full agreement of taking THC for real medical issues as it has been proven to alleviate pain, discomfort, chemo effects and all types of other of medical conditions.

The real difference between THC and opiates is you do not build up long term negative effects with THC products for medical effects. Of course any added smoke to your lungs is not good in any way however fortunately there are other methods to get THC for medical conditions.

Taking THC products for enjoyment purposes just stay at home.

Edibles are pretty mild...

Yeah, because Fetal Alcohol Syndrome isn’t a thing at all.

Dumb argument to make, man.
Argument ? Seriously ? Arguing for what ?

Is Humor Impairment an argument ?

Sorry. I was envisioning both heads on the shoulder. Not the typical 2-headed configuration for males

Most of the A Holes that I come in contact with are neither drunk or stoned. They just cannot help themselves. Several of them are right here on this forum. They are easy to spot, condescending know it all types. The ones here to "educate" the rest of us. I would agree that those folks could use a little "sweet leaf" in their life.

Depends on the dose. And whether the person taking them knows it’s a slow come-on, and doesn’t eat the whole pack in 10 minutes because they aren’t feeling anything yet.
Yeah, like my 83 yr old dad did for hip pain 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤣🤣🤣🤣
He was high as a kite.
First time ever for weed. Wanted it for pain. Brother stayed wirh him. Said he was acting like he was going to go party all night like a teen ager 😱🤔😉😆😆

Even though I’m sure you’ll tell me the nih is not credible see below. But more than that think logically for a moment about how food, or sex can be addictive. The reward sensation in the brain isn’t just a chemical like nicotine, there is a psychological component to addiction that can’t be grown in a lab. While i wouldn’t say it’s as addictive as other things ie nicotine, alcohol, to dismiss that one can become addicted to the feeling is silly.

While it’s more a dependency and i know addiction and dependency are distinct, there is a relation

I'm sure it's addictive, maybe something like coffee or cigs. nothing like crack or heroin. my opinion is if you smoke it all the time to just get high then you are addicted to it. i totally understand it being used to treat pain. and i don't have a problem with people smoking it. but when they get behind the wheel of a car then it becomes everyones problem.

It’s not. And cigarettes are far more addictive than cocaine and heroin.

It’s not possible to be physically addicted to weed. And frankly most people grow out of it sometime in their 30s.
