Springfield TRP won't close slide with 8 rounds

These guns are built tighter than your standard 1911. No matter what others may say and I know they are not “custom fitted” guns, but I’ve owned over twenty different 1911s and can assure you the TRP is a tighter built gun. They don’t work being light handed. Slam that magazine in there about two hundred times or change the mag catch out for a looser fitting one. Or you can do what I recommended and take a file to it. I don’t know if you are even capable of removing the mag catch though. Your only choice, if you can’t get your skill set to that level, is to get a Glock.

It is almost like the extractor is in the way and stopping the magazine from loading correctly. Also it almost seems like the bullet is pushing the slide so much that it will not close. I am not 100% sure.

Of course when I show my armorer at my gun range - he never has a problem.

Maybe your wish is to carry with an empty chamber, but a full mag. IMHO, not all handguns like this.

I suspect larger handguns accommodate a full mag with an empty chamber more easily. Smaller guns, on the other hand, may require you to reduce your round count by one to alleviate pressure in the mag and against the slide, so these parts operate reliably.

Alternately, if you want to carry a full mag with smaller guns, you may need to lock the slide back, insert a full mag and release the slide. Yes, you'll have a round in the chamber, but the slide will not be bound-up with a the magazine.

I've noticed this with my SIG P365, which is a small gun with a very tight magazine when full. I have to follow the paragraph above to carry a full mag. With the P226, a bigger gun, I have no problem.

The gun has some age on it. First thing to do and the cheapest is replace the recoil spring. Standard weight for 5" .45 1911 is 16lbs. I usually run 17-18 lb springs That'll also give you a bit more closing power. They work just fine and you don't have to chase brass as far. ;)
BTW: I highly recommend Wolff springs.
I seriously doubt its an extractor issue. Otherwise you'd be having failures to extract.

Well I don’t know what the official definition of “dissertation” is and how it pertains to what I said but the OP has been told numerous times how to fix it yet hasn’t responded anymore except further describing the problem.
