Help with Mod 3 Optic install

Let's reset. Are you talking about plate to gun, or optic to plate?

Plate to gun - use the screws that came with the cover.

407k to plate: The M4x0.7 screws that came with the 407K should work. Ideally you want 8 or 9mm length, I think. Test them by mounting the optic to the plate OFF the gun and see if they fully engage or protrude. Any protrusion is bad, and you don't need "flush" engagement if you've got more than a couple of threads in.

I did not get any screws with plate. The only screws I got were with optic and even Holosun said they are not correct screws for the mod 3.
I think what folk are trying to relay is that the screws that came with the Holosun are for mounting to the plate, not the mod 3. That same plate likely fits other gun models as well, not just the mod 3. I freely admit that perhaps Springfield made a proprietary plate just for the Mod 3, but based on my experience with AOS, it would surprise me.

The screws that came with the Holosun (one set or the other) should fit the plate, though sometimes Holosun includes screws that are too long (all sets included with optic), or at least they did sometimes in the past - not sure if they corrected that.

Then again, none of us are sitting with your gun/plate/optic in front of us trying to assemble things. It is entirely possible that Holosun did put wrong screws in a box at their manufacturing plant. That said, it isn’t hard to find the correct screws, a few folks have tried to help with sizing, and even if you have to order them, they’re cheap (even the good steel ones) and would arrive in a few days - a week (if ordered from US companies).

And if you choose to not use the optic, your choice, just like I choose to not put one on my Emissary AOS (for now). I certainly wouldn’t throw my optic in the trash because I need to order a couple of very low cost screws (won’t know if I need to until i decide to try and mount it). Until then, it sits in my closet amongst other gun accessories patiently awaiting my decision on when I might try it.

Optic to plate

Holosun told me to order proper screws from CH precision. There is a replacement screw kit. What a pain in the butt. I did order kit but will not install optic. Will put kit in gun box so I know where it is and if I ever sell gun they will have parts to install an optic if they want. For me, I wanted to try and see if optic would be a good option, it isn't. Now I know.

Sorry ya had such a bad experience with a very strange issue.

I've had issues with the optic screws and more recently with the grip screw coming out at the range. I was about 30 rounds in and it jammed, so I cleared it then the next few shots it wasn't ejecting well, then jammed again. I cleared it again and worked the slide which wasn't moving well so I switched guns. When I stripped it later a little metal piece fell out which I learned was the inside piece to the grip screw. SA is sending a new one and I'll add some locktite, but I think with the prodigy you just need to check your screws after each range visit. It's a very high maintenance gun but when it works it's amazing.

Vibratite > Loctite for screws you want to stay in place, but remove later.
