LPVO vs. Red Dot/Magnifier vs. 1x Prism

So..... planning on an SBR after 1 Jan. It will have a 10.5" tactical straw. Is the LPVO worth it? Go traditional with the dot? Hang with the prism so that if the battery dies during the zombiei apocalypse I still have a reticle? Thoughts?

For sbr I'd go mag w/ prism/halo. Better for and both eyes open.

Prism for obvious reason (etched) or dot (donut works well). While low power lpvo’s can work, they are not as intuitive IME. Holo 510c’s are nice n pop off in a jiffy. PA MD-25’s are sweet, cheap and light weight too. I use em both. It has a new ACSS reticle if’n you wanna go fancy.

My vote is for a prism. I bought Vortex Viper LPVO several years ago (for 5.56 rifles) and it just collects dust in my closet these days. Way too heavy.

But that's difficult to utilize for inside the home (depending on the size and layout).

Yeah a 4 or even a 6x might be a bit much for home defense, two of those pictured have a 3x Burris RT3. it would probably be fin for 10 yards

Assuming the shorty is for home defense a magnifier is not really needed. Honestly, out to 100 yds you don’t really need a magnifier. The new GLX 1 micro prism from Primary Arms is really nice with a larger eyebox than the SLX series. You can score accurate hits at 100 yds all day and in close it’s like a cheat code.

I’m the opposite. I like a LPVO.
A 1x4 is my choice.
Keep it on 1x but when you need some range, you have it.
SBR’s are still good out past most “dot” ranges. Its more universal

My philosophy: dots are for finding people. Magnification is for finding the right people, and then shooting only certain pieces of them.

I agree, that's why my first choice was 1x Prism. But if someone wanted some magnification in case a pack of coyotes are attacking your goat +100 a flip to side 3x micro magnifier combined with red dot on a shorty could help.
