USAF Sig M18 court case reports released

ECS686

Not to create a long thread but the AF just released the court stuff with some pretty damning stuff in their personal that some didn’t know about. I presume because the Accused Airman was found dead and two other Airman involved pled guilty. I was at Malmstrom in the missile field 91-93 and we didn’t have such nonsense.. of course I had a lot of Vietnam Vets as Flight Chiefs that mentored us properly. Times are changing

Beyond words. It's not my Air Force anymore. WTF is wrong with these people? Yes, I was Security Police when I first enlisted.
Yeah I was a SP the Security forces and retired in 2007 from an ANG unit. when I went in active duty 1986 I had Vietnam Vets that ran everythjng. Flight Chiefs CATM etc (they showed me the right way to run a S&W Model 15 revolver)

This stuff would have never flown especially in SAC the pre Hlobal Strike Command)

In 2010 I attempted to transfer to the AF as a civilian CATM instructor and it was nigh at day difference then in a bad way from the 80’s and 90’s.

And now from seeing some of these cases that make the news yeah London has fallen.

Hopefully the new DOD leaders can get some normalcy back!

I was an OSI agent active and reserve from the Vietnam era to retirement in 2011. Almost every year there was one or more negligent discharges by a Security Forces troop somewhere that my agency investigated. So many young folks handling guns in remote places, I think boredom and youthful ignorance, and inadequate supervision play a big role. And then there are the suicides which are a wholly different subject.

I remember talking to my uncle which made MSG (forgive me if I talk crayon eater) in the AF back in the mid ‘90’s about what to expect if I get in. I remember him saying things weren’t the same as when went through boot camp during ‘Nam. I’ve heard the same things over the years though the other branches (yes I have more Veteran than civilian friends).

True we had a mishap here and there but the majority of incidents I knew of (actually on my base or validated not what rumor made it)
We had several clearing barrel booms but really that’s what clearing barrels are for. Safe direction zero human contact it’s the ones couple outside the clearing barrel.

Had one shoot a M16 off and witnesses saw a tracer his story didn’t jive and there was other foul play and we never heard of saw that dude again. This was SAC in the mid 1980’s.

Missile field was again a couoke usually camper teams from lack of sleep and inattentive I know of one fatality that was used as a training point.

And when deployed for Enduring Freedom in 2002 we had 2 with an over watch position by the same former Miami cop turned active duty Security Forces. My squad leader was former USMC 2 Purple Hearts at Siege of Kae Sohn and CATM investigated it) he had a behind the wood shed motivational chat first time. Kid did it again 6 weeks later and nobody can fix stupid a second time as he obviously didn’t learn.

So I didn’t see a lot of criminal mishandling (pointing at people and being really reckless) but there is a lot less of explaining away outside a clearing barrel which is still not good but that’s what they are for. They anticipate it as a chance.

Now suicides yeah off the hook in Security Forces whole other topic.
