Possible competition in my future.

Well lately I been talking about doing competitive shooting (I’ll admit it was getting old talking about it and looking for a way to start). Yes I did my first one at my local range/gun shop and enjoyed it. Since then i been following leads that don’t line up with my work life (2nd shift puts out a lot of during the week). For some reason or another I was looking through some other detachments for the Marine Corps League and found out one detachment has couple shooting events going on that I can participate in.

To all the Illinois people out there possibly interested let me know and I’ll have no problems helping you out.

I just go to the range and shoot by myself. I really don't like people around me while i'm shooting, that's why I go first thing in the morning.

Well this one ☝️ is different. It’s hard to explain besides it’s organized by the Marine Corps League and held at a VFW. So basically the public isn’t to aware to much.

Otherwise that’s why I changed ranges to shoot. I can go during the week before work and enjoy the ringing in my ears.

Hi,

Good on you! I keep telling myself to get involved with a steel challenge, or something. So far all I've done is a pin shoot at my local range. One of these days.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Do it when you’re ready. They can be challenging. The one I started with was just 3 people and I just had a blast.

Do it! By all means DO IT! I shot USPSA/IPSC and IDPA for several years and it was absolutely the most fun I ever had with a gun. And in addition to being great fun it will improve your shooting abilities faster than anything else I can think of. Standing still shooting at a target that is also standing still i a wide open target range is well and good, but how about if that target is half obscured by holding a child? Or half hiding behind a concrete block wall? Or running across the area in front of you (yeah we do use moving targets regularly). Or one stage a retired cop came up with we had to lay on our backs and shoot at a target that was behind our heads.

Honestly it's worth it. Even if you are old and can't keep up with the younger and quicker guys you will still have a blast. USPSA and IDPA have "Club Finders" on their web sites:

I don’t need competition. Everytime I go to this range there’s this dude who keeps hanging around my lane calling me Daddy Warbucks and shouting “Bullsye”, “Yahtzee” and “Time for Beers” and keeps asking if he can shoot my guns and how much they cost. Sometimes he even follows me to the bar afterward.

Thanks totally.

It is different and challenging than standing in a detention box. I’ll be around good people and will have a lot of pointers heading my way.
