Reading a ballistics table chart, help needed

Hi all.

Can someone help me understand what’s going on in the attached pic of a ballistics table?

Best,

Tony

Theres no easy way to tell you without pointing and verbally telling you.
It looks like you’re sighted in at 100 yards with your sight on a 59 degree day. The bottom part shows what the 9mm (not sure) bullet is doing. I also presume you’re inside since there is no wind.

Also the sight is shown as 1 1/2" above the center of the barrel bore (typical of scopes on rifles), most pistols will be closer to an inch or less with open sights, may be more if you have a Dot.

just out of curiousity what are you trying to accomplish at that range, as a 9mm, like most SDF pistol ammo, is not going to have meaningful energy at 500 yds.

There is a house that distance from my house to a neighbors place. I shoot in this exact direction. The is a gradual hillside behind my house that is probably 10 to 15 above where the target is set. I’ve never shot anywhere close to 10 feet above the target. Should I be concerned?

Are you likely to hit neighbor's house accidently ( if l'm understanding correctly ) ? Not very likely

Should you be concerned ? Yes !

Either shoot in a different direction , or build a proper backstop , of significant height .

Ok. Try this on for size. I'm shooting 9mm pistols with 115 FMJ. If I shoot over the corner of my property then I have 3,000 feet door to door to the first in the flight path of the projectile. Using the ballistics calculation on Federals website at 2,000 yards the bullet was almost falling straight down, almost no energy left. That gives me a 1,000 cushion. On either side of that centerine, I have about 300 to 400 yards before I'd get close to a house. There is a little brush there but I'll clear it out so I can see far into the field behind. So what do you think? Remember, I have a fifteen foot high rise behind the house that would be above the target. Still too risky?

Any input welcomed.

And, when I went on Google maps to remeasure everything I'd discovered my first flight path was actually 2,046 feet because I had measured to a barn and not the house. So if the bullet traveled that far it, again, would have almost zero energy left.

If it were you shooting, would you be concerned?
