Families at Air Force base in Florida told to take down Christmas decorations.

We already have the outside lights up, but we aren't turning them on. I live up north where it gets cold and nasty quick, so I do it while it is still decent.
Our daughters have their Christmas trees up and decorated in their rooms
My wife has put out the Christmas tree village and her vintage ceramic trees.
Doesn't bother me one bit.
We had fall décor up until like last week when she switched to Christmas
We LOVE Christmas. My wife was born in December, out oldest was born on Christmas

We still gather together with family on Thanksgiving and have a great day.

But Christmas is a SEASON

Now, I do get the base thing. Whiter I agree or not, rules are rules and you have to follow them

When my mom died I inherited her CDs including this one.
(I also inherited a bunch of vinyl jazz from the late 50s or early 60s that was still in the shrink wrap. Stupidly, I didn't take any of it because I didn't have a turntable but that's a different story)

My grandmother made that Christmas tree before I was 5 years old. I also inherited it.

We tried Christmas trees right after we got married but either our dogs tore them down or our cats climbed them. So we gave up on the Christmas tree idea and that tree became our Christmas tree.

Generally we spend Thanksgiving at the Goat Ranch. When we get home from the Goat Ranch we light the tree and I play that album ( I still have the actual CD but now I play it on my phone) and that's the beginning of the Christmas season for us. On New Year's Eve at midnight we play that album one more time and turn the tree off and that's the end of our Christmas season.

This year's going to be a little bit different because last Thanksgiving it was an hour drive each way from our house to the Goat Ranch now it's 3 miles down the road. So I suspect we won't be quite as wiped out when we get home

I lived in many of base housing. Never had a problem with their rules. If it wasn't for the rules then the base would look like downtown dumps. Let me explain. A lot of military live downtown here in beautiful Alamogordo NM. The reason they move downtown is because they don't like cutting their grass, pulling weeds, picking up trash etc.! They are lazy! So now our neighborhoods here look like dumps. The old motto here is if the house is a dump outside, GI's are renting it or purchased it. Sorry to say this but it's the truth. One of my neighbors is a code enforcement officer and says because of the military he stays busy all day! Times sure has changed. Even going to the front gate of Holloman AFB there are weeds growing up thru the rocks. The approaches to the main gate are dirty with cigarette butts and trash and nobody seems to care. In my day you never would have seen that, its a disgrace.

I did call the base and talked to someone in Public affairs. They told me that they didn't have enough people to do that and Airman do not do menial tasks like picking weeds and sweeping. With the budget the way it is there is no money for contractors. The person seemed annoyed that I would even bring it up. Thats what is wrong with our military.

Well back then the military had money -- I was one of the lucky few that did the menial task of policing of the area.

I could see putting up decorations before it's freezing outside, but i wouldn't turn them on until at least Thanksgiving.
for a year or 2, when i was on the road, and then came home for a weekend well BEFORE Thanksgiving day..???

(many years, i could not get home for Thanksgiving, at least 1 year, i missed Christmas too).

we put up all the lights at least outside, cuz my kids were young, and i dare not let them climb any ladder.

now the wife said she would not turn on the lights when i'd go back on the road.....and wait till T-Day.

but who knows.....no one ever told me if she did.

damned neighbors.

I recently retired from a DOD job on a military base. One day I got to talking to a grounds crew contractor, who's mower trailer for the crew had a flat tire by my shop. He said because of budget cuts, the grounds crew contractors were cut back on. With the smaller crews doing more, there was no way for them to keep up. They were finally told to just concentrate on critical and high priority areas. And they were having a hard time keeping up on that with reduced crews. And with active duty personal constantly training, deploying, and trying to keep their equipment up, there is no time to worry about picking up cigarette butts and pulling weeds. Unless it was FOD related. Maybe all the old timers could volunteer their time to tidy up the bases. Instead of adopt a highway, adopt a base! lol

Fly boys  Every one of them thinks they are Edward Vernon Rickenbacker and expect to be treated as such. I know I sure did my fair share of policing the grounds. Then I was just a self-propelled pop-up target with the I.Q. of a rock. AKA Infantry. Oh, BTY, I wasn't a sniper, SF/delta, commando, spec ops,.............................

I don't believe that one bit! My neighbor is a munitions tech on the drones. He leaves the house by 7am, is home for lunch at 11am and usually home between 2-3pm. He doesn't even work 8 hours a day. He can bend the knee and pull some weeds on base because he surely doesn't do anything around his house to include pick up his dog crap for 2 dogs. The neighbor on the other side is always calling animal control to come and write him up for excessive dog crap. I tell you it's just laziness. When I was in aircraft maintenance we ALL did a FOD walk every morning. Unless you had a broken leg you walked!

not every Formula1 mechanic can drive a race car proficiently at 200mph . Just saying
Every role has its part.
You do the job you signed up for

I’d say that every base, base commander and staff treat the rules and groundskeeping different.
