J Frame? Well....

Yes, I know a lot of guys carry these because they are so easy to pack. Harder to shoot with that short sight radius, small grips and small sights. If you put on bigger grips, you should carry a K Frame as they are easier to shoot under stress. If you belt carry a J frame, please look into a three inch barrel because of the bigger sights and longer sight radius. A two inch J Frame is pocket or ankle carry only for me. And with cargo pants, I can still pocket carry the three inch in a pocket holster. Try it!

Look how much wider the sights are on a heavy BBL three inch.

This version also has a square butt, which is almost as easy to hide but gives you a little more to grip. Again, on a belt it hides as easy as a two inch but is so much easier to shoot. Don't handicap yourself in the name of convenience. What does Clint Smith say? A sidearm is meant to be comforting, not comfortable.

Yes, I currently pocket carry a 3" SS .327 Fed Mag SP101 in the cargo pocket of my Tru-Specs. For my next year's handgun I'm thinking about a 2.75" SS .357 Redhawk which will ride in the same pocket. But not at the same time.

Taking nothing away from Clint Smith or yourself, however, it doesn't have to be comfortable but if it is uncomfortable, it's eventually going to get left behind. That's the real me not what I wish, pretend, or fantasize. No matter how much I promise myself that I won't, and I'm willing to bet there is a lot more like me out there those like C.S. weather they admit it or not. I OWB my 638 with bigger grips (Pachmayr compacs) because it fits my hand better than any of the many guns I've owned over a lifetime of shooting and carrying. Hits where I point it, point not aim. JMHO, carry what you are comfortable and proficient with.
Well maybe not one of the "plastic fantastic" they are ugly as homemade sin, have a little self-respect:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

My Brother had a 3” S&W Model 36 that I carried for about a month to test and it’s not for me. A K frame is my 3” preference.

As far as J frame I love the new 432/632 (32 H&R 442/642 (38 Special) and am really really partial to the 640 Pro Black as they have a great set of sights

The Ruger Lipsey’s LCR in 32 H&R is also a great option.
The 32 cals have the extra plus as they are 6 shots

A J frame is a great choice and living the snub life is a thing but many folks discount them because of capacity.
But in the mission drives the gear they are probably enough gun for running to Walmart and walking the park

Carry my little J-frame in an ankle holster have for years. It's a 637 Airweight W/1-7/8" barrel. Hope like hell don't ever need it but if so sure it would probably be up close and very personal.

Did a feature on Clint Smith & Thunder Ranch in the mid 90's when the ranch was still in Texas. Really liked the guy was very personable and a great instructor

The little J snubbies in a decent pocket holster carry/conceal better than darn near anything. I’ve “several” carry pistols acquired in my search for the perfect carry piece. And after trying the newest idea I tend to drift back to an air weight Smith. My old 638 in an old pocket holster has logged a Ton of miles in my front Jean pocket-It just disappears. Yes, it’s not the easiest gun to master, and yes it doesn’t hold a dozen or two rounds but the darn thing just works-each time- every time AND it makes it very easy to meet the #1 rule of gun fighting-Have a gun🙄. Been considering a new UC or an M&P340 just because of the real sights, but haven’t jumped yet. Forbelt carry around the farm or woods a 3” model 60 makes a comforting companion, pretty easy to hit with and with 357’s throw a stout punch. Not fun at the range with full boat loads but then I’m not planning on shooting a box or two if things go bad😏

One of, if not the best, looking of any snubbie. The sights are what all guns should have. But too light. An advantage when the "pocket" is the cargo pocket of Tru-Spec pants. I know I shouldn't, but I'm seriously considering either a 2.75" Redhawk .357 or the 2.5" Super Redhawk Alaskan .44 as next year's handgun pick and it would be pocket carry in the cargo pocket also.

Mike P that is just a garden variety S&W 36-1. The newer Pro Series also has good sights, so I ended up getting one despite the internal lock and all that implies. It is a beast with .357 loads, but has a comfortable strength margin when shooting the .38 Plus P load I prefer, the lead semi-wadcutter hollow point 158 grain also known as the Dade Load or FBI Load. The factory grips were very comfortable, but a little large for me for pocket carry.

The 640 Pro is steel frame so 38 plus p Gold Dot 135 wouldn’t be bad I generally reserve my Gold Dots for steel frame stuff and run 148 wadcutter in air weights

As far as magnums jn snubs I don’t the one exception is the 158 XTP DB load from High Desert as it’s like a 38 plus P plus coming in at 1,000 FPS and gets 16” and expansion.

Here is a better view of the sights on the Pro Series 60. Three inch bbl, .357 Magnum (just in case, but real advantage is not afraid of any +P .38 rounds) sights my over 60 year old eyes can see, round butt for concealment...enough in the plus category for me to overlook the big negative which is the internal lock. A complication I don't need as my remaining guns are all in a safe and I don't have any kids.
