First, the bad news…I forgot to take photos of guns at the range so there is a photo at the end of the two after I cleaned them up.
Now the good news! This past Saturday I mounted a Holosun 507 C ACSS Vulcan on the Emissary and a Trijicon Trijicon RMR® HRS Type 2 on the TPS. All screws came with optics, 25 inch pound torque plate to slide on both, 15 inch pound torque optic to plate on both. Bit of blue loctite all around.
So today I packed up a couple hundred rounds of American Eagle 230g FMJ to head to the range and sight in the optics, then compare the two guns (and optics).
Zero targets at 7 yards, all firing 2h standing (no bench rests here!)
First up for sight in was the Emissary/Holosun pairing. First few shots hit low left, so I worked my adjustments up from there, until I was happy. Then I put the rest of those 50 rounds into center as best I could.
Next up was the TRP CC/RMR pairing. Again 7 yds and 2h standing. Started with center diamond. And again, started a first round very low, then low left, and then made adjustments every few rounds until I was happy. Then I fired one 7 round mag into the four corners and the reimagining of those 50 rounds into the center. Little sloppy with the magazines into corners.
After getting both gun optics zeroed to my satisfaction, this is where I would have gone a couple rounds toe to toe with … TACTICAL DUDE! Unfortunately, it appeared he had been completely eradicated since my visit last week, so I had to go to plan B. A toe to toe comparison playing Friendly Competition III - Spicey!
So, again at 7 yds, I alternated 5 round magazines with each gun, starting with Emissary in top left (20) half circle. Then TRP into top right (20), Emissary into lower right (20) and TRP into lower left (20).
After firing 40 rounds (8-5 round magazines), I had two 5 round magazines left for each gun. Moved target to 5 yards, then fired 5 into each small square overlapping the 5 and 10 ring. Emissary into the blue, top right, TRP into the red, top left, Emissary into the blue, boredom left, TRP in the red, bottom right. And THAT was the end of 200 rounds!
So it would appear PLAYER 2 has won again! Was a great time, as always, and had zero malfunctions, no grip screws or optics came loose, and was very happy with both optics. I think I did better with the TRP/RMR because it had a 3.5 MOA dot whereas the Holosun 507C ACSS Vulcan had a chevron. I found it much easier to hold the dot while squeezing off a shot than the chevron. Could have also been the Emissary weighs a LOT more than the TRP! 40 oz for the Emissary, 26.3 oz for the TRP. I’m sure that could have affected my holding steady whilst squeezing the trigger.
That only gives me 300 rounds through the TRP CC, but I will certainly carry it! Next range trip will likely be the week after Christmas and it will be time to corral the .45s and get back to some 9mm speed work!
