Very nice, I'm always torn between auto's and pumps for shotties. I always like the idea of the warning rack. I don't care what anyone says a less than determined criminal will 100% think twice hearing someone rack a shotty. I have... in my younger days rethunk a very bad idea due to exactly that LOL.
While common sense would tell you hearing that pump would say they FA, and were about to FO.. I don’t put much faith in that. Just like loud pipes on a bike will cause others to hear you. Nope, zero attention paid…
I kinda have to agree with you on this. I have multiple shotguns, some semi-auto and some pump action. But I don't keep any loaded. I have pistols loaded and stashed in every room of my house. More than one in some rooms. But all loaded with "one up the pipe". Some are my wife's pistols. But if I was going back to keeping a shotgun loaded in the house, it would be with one in the chamber. The most any intruder will get in my house is a verbal warning. From me or my two German Shepards. None of this racking a round after the fact stuff.
I keep my pistols condition 1. I think if I was in an out of the way ranch home or something where I felt more of a threat I would just go with an auto. Not sure why you'd go pump if that's the thinking
If they can hear the rack of the slide, they are already too close.
I live out in the country. I do have neighbors, but not super close by like in the city. There won't be a "bump" in the night waking me up to an intruder. My dogs would sense them before they could even attempt forcing their way in. My dogs will alert me. And be the intruder(s) first greeters. If I choose to investigate, I'd rather do it with one of my handguns and a handheld flashlight. I'm not a proponent of weapon mounted lights. There are several twists and turns within my house, and trying to pull off some CQB stuff just doesn't cut it with a long gun, rifle or shotgun. And while my wife is very proficient with pistols, she is not so with shotguns. So I don't even bother keeping any shotguns loaded. It's just the way I do it around my place. Right or wrong. Your style may differ.
Yeah my shotty sits next to my bed. I'd just point it at the door and wait.
