Viking River Cruise

Any members here ever been on a Viking River Cruise? Specifically, the US, and the Mississippi River. The wife and I have not been on a real vacation together since just about forever. I have a cousin who with her husband went on a Viking River Cruise in Europe, and they loved it. The European Cruise is just a bit too much to get our feet wet in for our first river cruise. That's why I like to hear from some of you that may have taken a Mississippi river cruise. Try one out here first before we think about a European cruise. Now just to be clear, I'm not at all interested in any sea cruises. I did a couple of those in my younger days and was not impressed. Just not interested in being stuck on a Waffle House covid cruise with 5000 other people and tourist trap port calls. Thanks.

Maybe go “feet wet” on a smaller cruise in Alaska. Do the Inside Passage from Brit columbia up to Juneau and back. Usually 1 week.
There are some companies that do the smaller 40-50 people boats

I did look into some of those, but for a first time to try, it's a little too far away. And for me, too cold for my liking! lol

I know. But for a first-time trip, it's too far away. New Orleans is a doable drive for us to start out on. I really don't want to have to fly to our departure port.

A guy I know from work just got back from a multi week Viking cruise in Europe and he said that it was really nice and relaxing but the cruise was filled with mostly older people. This guy is close to retirement age himself so the other cruisers must have been significantly older.

I don't have a problem with that. I'm 60 and the wife is 52. We both have some mobility issues, so not looking to hike the Alps. Just want some lazy days on the River, and some easy walking excursions that aren't tourist traps.

I resisted going on a cruise to anywhere for a long time, but for our 25th anniversary my wife wanted to go on one. I still resisted, saying I did not want to go spend a week+ stranded on a floating hotel. She finally convinced me to go on an Alaskan cruise. Gotta say, it was one of the best vacations I've ever been on, so much so that since then we have been on five additional Alaskan cruises and train excursions in the past 15 years. Cruising through the inside passage has similarities to a river cruise.

As a hard core cruise skeptic I've enjoyed the Alaska trips.

I had to have rotator cuff surgery and don't think I would be up for the rowing part! lol

Have thought about doing a South Pacific/ Tahiti cruise. Smaller vessel, not a floating condo-tel.

Mrs. BassCliff and I enjoyed an Alaskan cruise for our 30th anniversary, summer of 2024. We've been looking at a domestic river cruise for our next big thing. I have one friend who's said good things about Viking. He's traveled a lot so I tend to trust him. I'll let you know if we decide to go.

I Don’t see any reason why it would not be fun. Just be aware that the “Nashville” leg, if they still advertise that, is a good 3+ hour drive east from Memphis.

I don't care much for Canada, or for the people that come from there. But we took a train trip in lieu of a cruise. It was remarkable. Breath taking. Worth EVERY penny. We got the suite option. https://canadarailvacations.com/rail-via-rail
