New purchase Question

Hi guys!

Buds Gunshop where I bought it won't take the return because I installed it. Can I gunsmith modified to make it work for my Mod 3?
I'm curious if anyone on the forum here has an XDM and an XD mod.3 and can compare the barrels?

PLEASE understand that I am not a gunsmith or any kind of expert in the firearms universe. I just like taking pictures and hogging bandwidth on the internet. ;) I took a few pictures today and will share my thoughts.

Here are my XDM Elite Precision 5.25 and XD9 Mod.3.

These are the barrels, the XDM still on top.

As far as the linkage, everything looks the same. There are some very minor differences which may be wear or manufacturing tolerances. There are a lot more rounds through the XDM than the Mod.3. Here is the chamber end.

Again, everything looks the same. There seems to be a little notch in the middle of the XDM linkage. I don't know if that is functional. I could not see where that notch would be used in the frame. It's so small as to make me think it's just wear or some kind of manufacturing glitch. Otherwise, to my eyeballs, they look the same. Here's another view.

All the angles and curves look the same. The recoil spring notches look the same. I apologize for the lousy lighting. Here is the Mod.3 with the 5.25" barrel.

In this configuration the pistol will function check just fine. It racks and dry fires perfectly. It will lock back on an empty magazine and the magazine release works just fine. I tried a couple of different XD9 magazines, no problem. The only thing I did not do was run a few dummy rounds through the action. Drat. Sorry.

Again, I would check with an expert or ask the factory if this barrel swap is totally functional and safe. But I would feel comfortable with live fire testing, if I had a purpose. I'm happy using the stock barrels in my stock pistols so I won't be live fire testing. I hope you don't mind.

Anyway, there you have it. It's my long-winded way of saying, "Try it if you want to. I'm not.". But, since you've already spent the money with no chance of refund, I think you'll be OK modifying the longer barrel to fit your Mod.3 with a muzzle device. All standard disclaimers apply. This is my un-expert opinion.

@BassCliff,
Excellent analysis and pictures. I'm totally surprised, the barrels appear to be the same. If I had an XDM barrel I would probably pop off a few rounds at the range.

I personally don't see anything wrong with the extra length either. So sticking out a little farther it doesn't look the same as everyone else's. Nothing says yours has to look like theirs!

Thanks

I just purchased a Mod 3 9mm over Thanksgiving, and I purchased a Springfield Armory XD-M Replacement Barrel 4.50" Threaded 9mm Luger, Black Melonite from Buds Gunshop. I also purchased a compensator. Installed, the threaded barrel sticks out further than I expected. Does this seem right or did I purchase the wrong equipment. Thanks for the help.View attachment 99520
So this compensator doesn't have the screws. It just has the locking Gel. I returned it and I'm looking for a compensator that does have the screws and fits a Springfield Armory XD-M threaded Replacement Barrel 4.50". The gunsmith can cut it and re-thread it. It's costing me $100 but I'm already invested in this so I'm doin it.

Hi,

With that budget in mind, I would start with the Primary Arms Clasic Mini...

Review...

There's also a "micro" version but I think the Mini will work on your Mod.3.

I have the Holosun 507c on mine.

Did this sight attach directly to the firearm? Did it need a plate? Did it come with it or do I order it separately?

Thanks for your time.

Order separately. I'm fairly new to optics but this is what little I've figured out...

My Holosun needed an adapter plate for my Mod.3. I like the plate from C&H Precision. They are not cheap ($80) but I like the steel and the fit. I also bought their installation/maintenance kit. Their instructional videos allowed for a trouble-free install. Here's the website where I ordered the kit, plate, and extra screws.

IIRC, this is the plate I ordered for my Mod.3.

You'll need a specific pattern plate to mate the optic to the slide. The Mod.3 slide uses the OSP pattern. The optic has a "footprint". Springfield sells four different plates to adapt various optics.

For example, plate #2 supports the Primary Arms Classic, plate #3 supports the Holosun 507C. The Springfield plates are less expensive ($25).

Let us know if you have any specific questions before you order a bunch of stuff. Let's make sure you get it right.

So the primary arms classic sight goes with the Springfield plate #2? Am I reading that right?
