What time is it

OK guys its Watch time What are you wearing?

Today watches are at least as much fashion as for telling time. How many devices do you have that tell time? There are dress watches and sport watches and rugged watches, digital, analog and smart watches. I wonder if in ten years if kids will know how to read an analog watch.

I bought a Rolex GMT Master II in 1990 and havent regretted it. Back then $3000 was a lot of money but today they run over 10K to as much as 20K. Are they worth it? IDK, a Hyundai will get you around town but an Audi or Corvette or _______ does it with panache

The GMT Master is a TWO time zone watch. That red hand makes one revolution in 24 hours, You set the bezel for the second time zone and you can read both times. Its not a big deal if you dont travel or have family around the globe; but for a young soldier it was really cool to be able to call home when your family was awake

I'm going to show of my cheap pocket watches anyway.

Anything on my wrists or my neck or my hands drives me nuts. So, I do pocket watches.

The one on the Right is about 25 years old. It's branded Remington but I don't know if it's connected to Remington firearms. I bought it at Walmart for 20 bucks and it still keeps good time.

The one on the left is a Timex that I bought right around the time I retired.

Even though I'm rarely in "public" anymore I would still rather check the time on a watch than pull out my phone. I just really think that being on a cell phone in public on some level makes you a target.

I was walking my dog one day when we lived in the apartment and I had some idiot walk up to me on the sidewalk talking on a cell phone and ask me if he could borrow mine. I can't know this for sure but I'm pretty sure his intent was to steal my phone.

I've noticed since we've moved out here I tend to use the pocket watch more.

I've been trying to limit my screen time to less than 7 hours a day. And most of the time it's just easier to pull my watch out of my shirt pocket then it is to pull out my phone.

From the other thread, it seems most members don't really use watches much anymore. I do, but I am hard on them and don't want to invest more than a couple hundred bucks into them. I'd lose my mind if I scratched up a Rolex! lol
Quit wearing them years ago due to type of work I do reaching into liquor store shelves, etc, they get snagged.
Besides, we look at our phone constantly for work

Hmmmm, Ive been wearing it since 1990. Ive jumped/skydived with it. Ive been shot at, in fist fights, stabbed, and almost blown up wearing it. Its kinda like having an expensive car and not driving it because you might get a stone chip. The PD sent out a memo saying they would pay $50 if a watch was broken in the line of duty, but that didnt stop me. They would only pay $25 for sunglasses too

The worst that happened was when I was trying to lock up a kid who was high from huffing spray paint and the "dive" extension opened up but it didnt slip off and yes one time I caught the bezel on the door frame and the bezel popped off. I did have to see a jeweler about that one

For what its worth I wanted to buy my son a Rolex for graduation; but he said hed rather have a 3D printer
