Emergency Money

I keep $100 billion for those emergency fuel situation. Also always carry 2 cards. Both with a High limit. I traveled for work 60-75% of the time and I’ve had one card “fail”, so having a backup is very important. I do not carry a balance on any card-ever. If you can’t afford to pay for it don’t buy it. Nobody needs something bad enough to pay 20+% extra in interest.

I have a paltry sum in my daily pistol lock box, right next to a pistol. I keep whatever wad I am carrying out of the public eye.

Years ago I worked a case where an armed robber staked out ATM's on weekends. So we staked out the ATM's waiting for him to show up and we caught him. The arrest was a great place for an 870 and a Dirty Harry class speech. Turns out the guy was financing his venture with a side chick and was using a replica gun. Most of the ATM robberies I can recall involved victims who looked like victims.

Hi,

I've heard it said that, "Money talks."

Well, I know that's true.

All my money says, "Goodbye!"

When we're traveling we'll grab a few hundred for walking around money. But we're not in the habit of keeping a large sum in the house. We stay stocked up with other stuff so that we can get by for a few weeks, at least, should the need arise. Let's be careful out there.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Yep, I have trouble hanging on to it. A lot of mine goes out through the end of a gun barrel. Or feed and vet bills.

Not so much stateside, but I do a fair bit of hiking on the Camino de Santiago in Spain. Still have 60 miles to go to complete, if I can ever get well. Anyway, I will draw 400 euros at a time, but broken into 20s, as most vendors can’t or won’t break anything bigger…

Buddy of mine works security for the Vanderbilt Family. He always wears gold chains which are ready money anywhere in the world. I can't go that route...bad enough I drive the Corvette around, add gold chains and I will look like a jail bird that went in back during the Disco 70's and just got out of the stir and thinks he is still Disco Cool!!!!

Disco? Are you saying it's not cool anymore? Oh, the agony!

I work for defense contractors. Great money. Heavy toll on the family. Please don't judge my occupation. Obviously I travel a lot. I use a card holder money clip made by Trayvax in my front pocket, beside cards I carry local currency of $500. I have my regular wallet in my back pack. In my wallet is $2500 fresh crisp 100s. In my bank account available to my 24/7 is $15,000. That's emergency money. Tree comes through roof, car blows an engine...But for me, if I am in Paris & my flights are cancelled headed to Kuwait, I need to be able go to another airline & be able to buy the most expensive ticket because of short notice. I get reimbursed "eventually" but it keeps me from being stranded. If I need to head to a hotel(w/airport shuttle service). What ever the crisis is. I have had to rent a car & drive to another country to catch a plane or train because of Geopolitical reasons. To drive I have an International Driver License. I'm not bragging, I am not wealthy. I just need to keep options open, traveling these days to less than vacation deemed places can be dicey. I need to keep my options open as much as possible.

Sound like youve got most things covered. I'll leave it to you to decide if $100 bills are right. I might have chosen smaller denominations because sometimes large bills mark you as a target
