Anybody remember the Jerry Ahern "Survivalist" series

Jerry Ahern was the author. Prior to writing he worked in a gun shop. He had a significant knowledge of firearms and gunsmiths. The "Survivalist" series was written in the 80s, at the height of budding survival movement. The books were written like a catalog for high end guns. The main character carried a set of Detonics Combat Master pistols (pre Colt Officer model). He wore them in a double Alessi shoulder holster. In addition to the Detonics, he carried a 6" Metalified and Magnaported Colt Python in a Ranger leather holster, and a AG Russel "Sting" boot knife. He had two primary rifles, a Colt Car-15 with the Colt 3x scope and a Steyr SSG 308 sniper rifle with a Kahles scope. It goes on and on. If you liked reading gun magazines these books were the novel version of Gun & Ammo.
 
Those were the stupidest books. Only an idiot would read them.

(Don't forget Rourke's buddy Paul Rubenstein, who used an MP40 he insisted on calling a "Schmeisser".)

Hahaha well Paul carried the MP40 because there were no PCCs in the 80s.

Sure today we look back and say they were silly, but so were a lot of things. They were one of the big titles in the Action Adventure genera of the period along with Mac Bolan, The Executioner, and and and. Not every book can be Caesar's Commentaries on the Gallic War
 
I thought they were so damned silly I only made it through the first dozen. Granted, I might've been as old as HS age then.
I should read one now and see if I stop at one or keep going. I do recall they get farther and farther out there as it went on.

If you didnt like it then, you wont like it now but maybe if you read 12 it wasnt as bad as you remember. I will say that by the middle of the series (26 books) it became more science fiction then survival fiction

The cool thing for me was less the story and more the gun stuff. I still want a pair of Detonics
