Not my cuppa as Simon sez, but that is because I have not shot in a competition in decades. This has too many features for a carry gun. (for me at least) I am too old to unlearn the Harries Technique, so no light rails for me. No ambi safety as I am not a lefty and an ambi gets swept off too frequently for a right handed shooter and an inside the waistband holster. The magwell funnel adds length to the butt of the gun, the hardest part to hide. No thanks. Speed reloads are vital for competition shooters, but for the typical CCW holder it is not an issue. That does not mean don't practice them, it just means I am not will to give up any amount of concealability for the pursuit of the speed reload. Forward cocking serrations? I hate the look of them and in my opinion there is never a reason to get ones fingers that close to the loud end. I dislike the fiber optic front sight after breaking one from recoil. Gold bead please. Optic I can get behind...the front sight is not as sharp as it used to be, and the optic takes my aging reading glasses assisted eyes out of the equation. And this model has suppressor height sights so it co-witnesses with the dot, a vital aid to training since you have spent your life acquiring iron sights. This makes the handoff easy for your brain. Low sights will have you searching for the dot, and I believe that is why so many people dislike the dot. They were not training with the proper equipment. Square trigger guard always left me cold. High speed photos shows the finger always shifts, but every few years somebody starts the old rumor about it being a suitable grip. No thanks. The flat trigger I am still working with and I am not sure I like it yet, so a unqualified "maybe" on that one for me. Love the front strap checkering and that is a must for me now. Once you try it you will be spoiled too. No coned barrel for me...I don't like the balance. Hilton does and you might too. The five inch is spot on...the basis for the legendary reliability of the 1911 platform. A lot of things have to happen just right in a very short time window on the shorter models. Give me the five inch for a carry gun, and the shortest I will go is Commander length. That is the great thing about the 1911 platform. I can set it up the way I like it and you can set it up for you. We can all agree about the fit and finish...very beautiful work!
