Being a man I’ve always relied on maps because I could never bring myself to stop and ask for directions.I carry paper maps or print outs all the time hunting or travelling. Never know when no cell service. Which is a lot of times hunting/hiking.
If going to a new place, I’ll look at a map first and jot down a few notes.

I've worked on fire lookouts for several years and can't count the number of times people have arrived at the lookout and asked what the name of the lookout was and what road to take to get back to civilization. They'd point to a prominent peak and ask if that was Mt Rainier, for example, which was to the south but they were pointing at Glacier Pk to the north.
