SilencerCentral.com ripoff

I just conducted range tests with the Banish 9k suppressor from Silencercentral.com mounted on my Springfield Kuna. I've never been more disappointed in a product. The difference in volume is barely noticeable. I made the mistake of firing the first round through the "suppressor" without ear protection and my ears are still ringing. I fired a number of times, with and without the product mounted, and realized I wasted my money.

I notified the company. They responded that the 9k is "really only meant to take the edge off" and if I wanted a more effective "silencer" I should've bought the full-size Banish 9.

I responded that there is nothing on the company website that says the Banish 9k is only meant to "take the edge off." Had I known that, I've would've bought a different model or spent my money with a different company.

Of course you can't return suppressors. So I'm SOL.

Dang.
Never heard that before. “Made to take the edge off”.
What is the decibel diff rating between the 2 models ?

Were you using supersonic ammo? If so it will still hurt your ears from the sound barrier cracking especially if you are indoors or undercover. Not blaming you btw but this is something some people do not account for. Have you tried some 147gr subsonic or 150gr federal syntech ammo? K configuration suppressors definitely have a decible increase over a full length suppressor.

I know that not all reviews are reliable but people that reported using subsonic ammo state that it shot really quietly.

I found online that the banish 9k decibel rating is at 132 db. Another comparison table of suppressor research firm showed avg DB of 137 rating. their website says a 26db reduction. I assume that is compared to non suppressed firing.
I'd take note that it is a short suppressor and light, thus it has a higher db rating than a longer suppressor like its brother the Banish9

For comparison, the SilencerCo Octane 9 has a decibel rating of 127, and the full size Banish 9 has a 121 db avg from the research firm test.

I would assume that your choice of ammo made a big difference. suppressors with 115 gr standard ammo will only see a slight difference. 147 grain subsonic will really kick in the noise reduction.

edit: here is the research firm info:

So Im guessing an indoor range with cinderblock walls in a booth between lanes. Wasnt there so I cant say for sure but I bet if you were outside it would be hearing safe OR even in a normal house it would still be reasonably quiet. In the confines of a indoor range the the sonic boom is "magnified" and sound bounces off nearby walls

As others have said if you want it quieter, than use at least 147 gr bullets (heavier even better) BUT remember nothing is Hollywood quiet

In the K cans you give up some suppression for small size its a trade off. The problem is theres no standardized method to compare suppressors and sound varies by local changes in temp and barometric conditions, so todays testing at 9AM can be different for Noon and next week

The Dead Air Mask HD rimfire suppressor is pretty dang close to Hollywood quiet with the right ammo. It sounds quieter than an airsoft gun. Kinda like a staple gun.

@PieterCoetzee

Nope. Outside. I never expected Hollywood quiet. I expected a noticeable reduction. My expectations were higher because the can is advertised as a suppressor, not just a minimal sound reducer that "only knocks the edge off." If that had been made clear from the outset, I would've ordered the full-sized Banish 9 or shopped for another model somewhere else.

My son--and some of you good folks--have suggested subsonic ammo since I'm stuck with the suppressor. I told him, that's not the point. I have almost 2,000 rounds of 115 and 124 grain supersonic 9mm and I'm not buying any specialized ammo to compensate for the lack of sound reduction.

So...I'll keep the can on, keep my ear protection on and use the ammo I have while swallowing some disappointment. Thank you Gents, for all the good advice.

I run mostly 124 thru my can a lot. I just know it wont deaden the noise reduction as much as a 147gr.
124 is cheaper as you state. I run 1 mag of 147 and the rest 124 .
Looking at your banish9k, i bet its opitomized for a 9mm pcc with a longer barrel than pistol length

Did you shoot outdoors with subs? According to this article it is hearing safe.

No suppressor exists that will stop the sound barrier breaking.

Using the link in Post #5 , the Mfg purports 132 Db in 9mm handgun . ( Presumably full size gun , and 147 subsinic ) . Different bbl length and different ammo will effect results .
132 decibels is extremely loud, painful, and dangerous to human hearing, falling well above the threshold of pain. Exposure causes immediate, permanent hearing damage. It is comparable to a jet engine taking off nearby, a pneumatic chipper, or a loud gun shot.

Subsonics shouldn't be that loud with a good suppressor. My favorite is 150gr Federal Syntech ammo for the best suppresion.
