A head shot DOES stop them. A body shot can stop them; but as we have mentioned body armor can lessen that

I try to stay proficient and use small targets at a good distance. BUT...

If I were to make a head shot, unless it was unavoidable, I hope I'd be able to convince the DA that my target was lower.

I recently renewed a Guard license and we used silhouette targets.
The bullseye was small, centermass. The instructor told us headshots counted zero and consecutive headshots could get us disqualified.

Law enforcenent training doctrine has been to shoot center mass because heads move around alot and are hard to hit, easy to miss. So some trainers penalize head shots to make the point Of course there are times when head shots are called for, like when the enemy is drugged or wearing body armor. Thus we have the Mozambique Drill, or two to the body, one to the head. Another variation is two to center mass then go for the pelvic girdle, so he has to fall down.

Yeah I know that was the doctrine. I dont think its viable anymore, for all the reasons we've discussed, besides heads dont move as much as youd think

Nice shooting. It reminds me of that episode of Miami Vice where the bad guy was holding a gun on a kid and he told Sonny "....if I even twitch" Sonny says "Maybe you wont even twitch" and BANG

I love that episode. It was the first TV thing that popped into my head when I first read the original post.

You could also use a title derived from one of the season 1 episodes of The Unit where they're practicing their sniper skills: "Don't Shoot Your Own Chicken"

Keep shooting at the bad guy.

I knew of an officer who shot through a hostage's shoulder to nail the hostage taker in the X. The hostage was peeved, but survived. Of course in the class if you shot the hostage it's a failure.
