Almost had to draw my gun "4 legged variety"

I have Old Timers disease too.

I want to be really careful how I say this because it's going to sound like I'm saying that my daughter is being malicious and she's not she's being pragmatic.

I also don't know the behind the scenes stuff.

My daughter is the one that bought the property that we live on. Her daughter also lives on the same property.

We pay a token rent and I'm sure my granddaughter pays rent but I don't know how much. I know that my daughter covers at least part of the mortgage.

What I'm about to say is pure speculation.

The original plan was for the dog to go to a pitbull sanctuary. I think that the granddaughter told her mom that if the dog goes she (and her rent money) are also going..

If that happens daughter loses the property in my wife and I lose our home.

So daughter came out put the best solution she could she put up an 8 ft fence behind granddaughter's house and told her never ever to let that dog run loose again.

Oddly enough, nobody told granddaughter that I have every intention of shooting that dog if I ever see it outside that fence.

I know this because she heard me say it to somebody once and threw a fit.

She started raising hell because I threatened to kill her dog and either my wife or her mom told her that I said that tonight it happened. I made it crystal clear in the hospital that I was going to kill that dog.

If nobody told her that wasn't on me.
Well, for the sake of keeping peace within the family, I hope that dog never gets out again. Or you are put in a position to have to do something about it.

I never turn my back on an aggressive dog, and when I'm in an area where owners let their dogs run wild.

I've been bit by two large dogs that snuck up behind me as I was walking on a public street minding my own business. After those events I had a talk with the owners & the dogs went away within 24 hrs.

I recently had a close encounter with a Bernese Mtn dog who came at me while I was doing the same. The owner kept trying to to control it but it kept getting away. I told here she should take it to an obedience school.

There's also an "ankle-biter" in my area that is mentally ill and runs at folks all the time but the gal who owns it says it's harmless, like other folks say about their aggressive dogs.

There are dogs that chase folks/kids on their bikes which can cause a crash & injuries.

In my area if push-comes-to-shove Animal Control gets involves and the person who was attacked is a witness during the hearing, then Animal Control drops the hammer on the irresponsible owner regarding the dog, and that reinforces any follow-on legal implications.

And lastly, we've had incidents where aggressive dogs have killed kids.

Like I said in an earlier post there are folks that should never have dogs.

My .02

I would not hesitate to dispatch an unleashed dog that is attacking my wife or our always leashed Rottie. AZ statutes cover that potential.

I had to shoot an attacking female javelina that came after my wife and our diabetic/blind previous Rottie. We have a few dumb as* from out of state neighbors who put out dog food for javelinas, thinking their cute. More than one neighbor has been attacked by a large group of javelinas. One dog was gored, almost died.

I called 911, was referrred to AZ G&F, which came out. The G&F officer said it was justified under AZ law even though it was in our rural residential neighborhood. I already knew that.

My buddy and his wife have a Pit, that they absolutely love; but it scares the poop out of me. They dont see the problem. I was over for Thanksgiving they had the dog in the crate. It kept charging and banging its head on the door so hard that it bent the metal.... The wife got stopped by PD and she had the dog in the car, he kept barking and growling so bad that the cop told her if the dog got free, he'd shoot it. She still complains about that.

I had a Rottie from a rescue. He was named Dylan Thomas (after the poet). He was so far from the CUJO mode that you wouldnt have known he was a Rottie. This was a dog that would listen to me reading him poetry...as long as I had a pocket full of treats

The problem with shooting dogs while yeah it should kill
Them, even defensive rounds zip through them and if you are trying to get the off a person that whole rule 4.

Anither rwason I recommend OC spray as it will get them off and cause the to break contact and they usually retreat and at the very least they break contact and if you still need to shoot the then they break contact and the person will walk off any OC exposure…..a self defense round that over penetrates not so much.

But do whatever your career and bank account can handle

If I need OC to get a dog off of you as soon as it's off of you I'm going to shoot it

The last thing I want to do is dispatch someone's pet. Pepper spray/Bear spray might work if you're close enough and the wind doesn't blow it back to blind you. Maybe just throw the attacking dog a treat?
Read your state statutes.

What are you even talking about?

I see no connection between my story and your post so maybe draw me one.

I can't tell if you're being defensive, trying not to get it, or if you're being sarcastic.

Let me say this, because i would never commit this to print if i really thought this out ahead of time because that might make it sound premeditated.

I'm just saying if a guy had come out shooting a gun, my first reaction would be to protect myself from someone who had initiated gun fire.

Or, more simply..... What would you do if a guy came out shooting and you were armed ? Is your first instinct is to put down your gun ?

There's a story in the local news right now about a woman in North Mississippi who was attacked by a pack of 4-6 dogs. She had to be airlifted to the hospital and her heart stopped at least once. Still in critical condition in the ICU. Facing multiple surgeries and a very long recovery IF she lives.
I have been confronted by mean dogs in the past. So far I've been able to get out of it without injury to me or the dog.
I would never want to harm a dog. But if they draw blood, they get a bullet.

Recent events in my state.

Sure. I get that.

I have been charged by lots of dogs starting when i was a paperboy, but i never got bit then. But I'm not afraid of them. I HAVE been bitten when wearing a bite suit, and then played with the dog afterwards.

Dogs sense your fear. If you ASSUME a dog is GOING to bite you, it probably will. But why don't they bite me ? Should i have shot the dog BEFORE it didn't bite me ?

But once you're afraid of the dog, you've pretty much going to get bit and you'll have to shoot it.

I get that. But i'd trust a dog charging me more than someone with a gun pre-determined to shoot something. I'd take my chances with the dog. They're more predictable than humans.

I have used pepper gel on several dogs in the neighborhood. Once they get it in the face they retreat but if one didn't it would get a bullet. Sometimes trying to deploy pepper spray , say in windy conditions, is not advisable

Shot a medium sized dog about three years ago which had somehow got over the "no climb" fence and killed our ram and wounded a ewe. Once I got in it realized it was cornered and turned to face me teeth bared. One shot from my M1911A1 solved the problem. The owner was down the road and had 14 dogs - no kidding. Two family members came and picked up the dog. They were very apologetic but I wasn't in the mood so I said get your dog and go. Haven't seen them since other than maybe they go driving by but I'm not sure what kind of vehicle they have.

This topic seems to be beating a dead horse, so I'll be brief. There are plenty of dogs that are perfectly harmonious with people, and vicious with any other dog. Those are the ones that concern me the most, having been a dog owner for most of my life. I've not encountered a dog attacking a person, but I've seen loose dogs attacking leashed pets. It's quite traumatizing to see (let alone for the leashed dog being attacked.)

I honestly don't understand what you're trying to communicate. I'm not going to shoot my granddaughter and I never said that I had any intention of doing so.

What I said was it if I ever see that dog running loose I'm going to kill it.

I mean, I meant it when I said it I mean it now. I meant it the night I tried to shoot the dog after it ate my face. I mean you can't get much more premeditated than that.

If. I. Ever. See. That. Dog. Running. Loose. I. Am. Going. To. KILL. It.

I'm not sure how that could be anything but premeditated and I don't care
