VA at it again...

Well it seems this month's effort to reduce VA disability benefits is going to utilize an AI program to seek out fraud and implement immediate action. We all know that AI is fool proof right? Yet other groups in this nation are ripping off the government/tax payer in plain sight but instead they focus on those who've served. I wonder what next month will bring?

yup
it seems they like easy targets
i am sure it will come up tomorrow at my doctors visit
i have a whole hit sheet of crap recently
like why all the sudden the pharmacy cant mail your meds until the day after you run out, even though you refilled them on time.
and why the phones just ring and ring and ring, no one answers
3 days now to return a secure message to the clinic
mystery cancelling appointments without notice
milking the 180 days to pay travel pay for doctors visits to VA, love the part when you finally get that office to answer a call
the lady says OH, i will process it today, the new system they forced upon us is supposed to be faster and efficient...well we all know the answer to that

I am sure there is some fraud going on in the system. Whenever there are humans involved it's just a known fact someone will take advantage. When will veterans understand that the government hates us. As we get older we become a burden. They used our youth and now they want us to disappear. It's our own fault, we elected the people that are taking away your healthcare. This is one of the reasons I stay far away from the VA and their BS.

Yep. I hear ya. The husband’s hide is singed pretty bad from jumping through their flaming hoops. 😒

I'm 100% VA disabled and could use the VA for health care, but I do not. I still keep my insurance and use them for everything. I just don't trust the VA around here. My wife is on CHAMP VA coverage but still hasn't used that yet. She still is covered under my private insurance and uses that. She can use CHAMP VA as a secondary but hasn't so far. Lots of hoops to jump through for her. I'm not worried about the VA re-examining me, all my disabilities are legit. And if they did decide to drop down my %, I have several other service-connected disabilities to claim, and just never did. My VSO said once I had reached 100% disability with the VA, to not rock the boat with further claims. You won't get anything more out of it, and it opens up the chance of everything else being re-opened for examination.

Are you medically retired from the military?

The VA recently opened a large new clinic in my area. About two weeks ago had appointments cancelled due to lack of personnel at the facility, don't know what's going on. Don't want to become a target by asking too many questions.

Being a retired federal employee, I still always look at federal jobs on usajobs.gov just to see what's out there. For the most part, there is still a federal hiring freeze. But that does not affect the VA. I see lots of job openings there. From what I see, the VA and Border Patrol are always hiring. There must be a high turnover rate at the VA.

Your 100% VA retired...any kind of employment is over my friend.

FWIW...I'm in the same boat 50% Service-Connected Disabled and Social Security Disabled = we're done!

That's a negative. I'm not considered homebound. I am allowed to work and did. The only reason I retired early (I'm 60) is because of my bad back, which is not service connected. I know plenty of other guys who are 100% VA P&T who still work. I don't have any disability rating with Social Security. But I am now thinking of applying because of my back and 100% VA rating. And just a few weeks ago I had a pulmonary embolism. I'm on blood thinners until if and when the blood clots in my lungs go away. I can't have my back surgery until then. And even with surgery, my back will still get worse. This surgery is just to relieve some of the pain, but not nearly all of it. I have to wait longer for applying for Social Security Disability because I did make too much money when I was working. I did try applying before but was denied because of that. Once enough time goes by with little or no income (VA disability pay is not considered income), I will re-apply.

I disagree if you're homebound the VA is NOT going to allow you to collect BIG money and still try to find employment. Why do you think they give 100% disabilities...it's not to find future employment...come on now.

Might we ask what life altering disabilities you have that convinced the VA you deserve them to award you such a payout.

I suggest you research it for yourself. It depends on what kind of 100% rating you have. I am allowed to work and still know people that are 100% VA disabled and still are allowed to work. If it wasn't for my back getting much worse, I would have still kept working until I was 62. 62 was my retirement goal for many years, long before I got to 100% VA. I copied and pasted the first google search that came up. There are lots more. And if you really want to delve deeper into it, you can access the VA website to find out more. I am not trying to be a rear end about this, but you are wrong.

Yes, you can work with a 100% VA disability Permanent and Total (P&T) rating, provided it is a "schedular" rating. There are no income restrictions, and you can hold full-time or part-time employment without affecting your compensation. However, if your 100% rating is based on "Individual Unemployability" (TDIU), you cannot work above the poverty level.

Key Considerations for Working with 100% P&T:
  • Schedular 100% P&T: You have no restrictions on working or income.
  • TDIU 100% P&T: You are generally prohibited from "substantially gainful employment" (earning above the federal poverty threshold).
  • Protection: A P&T rating means the VA has determined your condition is unlikely to improve, so working typically does not trigger a re-evaluation.
  • Exceptions: If you are 100% P&T, but your job requires abilities that contradict the severity of your rating, it could potentially trigger a review.

In short, if you are 100% P&T (not TDIU), you are free to work without fear of losing your benefits.

I've been 100% P&T for over 15 years plus social security disability. I've been led to believe I cannot work anywhere for fear of losing my benefits. At 78 with some fairly serious medical issues couldn't work anyway.
