Truck tires

I'm in the market for some tires for my Silverado Z71. Looking for something aggressive but not full out mud tires. I've had Toyo Open Country AT3s, Hercules TIS TT1s and am looking at Toyo Open Country RT Pros.

What ya got or had that you would recommend?

I run Nitto Ridge Grappler 33 x 12.5 x 20 on my RAM crew cab 4x4,. Low noise, great traction.cost ya $2500+ including mounting on as the spare. Averaging 55k to 60k. On my third set.

I have Grappler's on my F-150, but when they wear out I'm putting KO2's on (BFG).

I'm trying the new AT3's on my dually 275/55-20. Maybe 1k on them by now. I mainly buy bfg's due to they last longer for me. I ONLY buy gm vehicles (p/u's & suburban's) as I haven't bought car in 42 years. All are E1 rated which is 80psi max. I'd say try either an XL rated (usually 45psi max) or a D1 or D2 rated. I haven't had any luck on longevity with cery many other brands. Key is finding the right tire pressure on THAT vehicle and rotate every oil change. Have the rotation done at the place you buy from to keep up with the warranty! Many times you can get a new set at half price or save maybe 25%. Milage warranty is your friend!

170k on RAM, 5.7 gasoline Hemi. No e-torque bs, no auto stop/start bs. Time to let it go but do not care for any current offerings. Heck, Toyota Tacoma Trd OffRoad is $54000.00. 4 cyl turbo junk. Everything is hybrid or turbo. If I go turbo it will be bolted to a Cummins Diesel that lives in a RAM 2500.

I’ve been running Falken Wildpeaks for the past 60k E load range on an F150. The Toyo you referenced was just enough more $ to make the decision. 42psi and they still look perfect, wearing evenly. I expect to get 10k more miles out of these.

I've had good luck with Goodyear Wrangler All Terrain Adventure tires. Good wet traction and I've never had a sidewall puncture while off road. I've surprisingly lost a number of tires to sidewall slices or punctures off road.

I always go to tirerack.com and search by size. Then study the ratings on those I like. Then 1.3 miles down the road to Discount Tire and work it out.

I'm on my 3rd set of BFG K02s. Great in the wet/snow. Quiet and long lasting. Love them!

My only recommendation is no longer made. The Goodyear X-tra Grip High Miler. 12.00 - 16.5 size. Got 80,000 miles out of my first set and had 70,000 out of the second set when I sold the truck. They were also the only tire I have ever seen to squall on hard packed dirt under a hard pull. The only drawback to them was noise.

Alas , they were bias-ply and didn't fit in with the radial tire craze.

Thanks to all that have replied here. I'm researching all except Goodyear and Michelin. Got 32k out of my last Goodyear ATs. Michelin doesn't make a tire that inspires me.

I learned the hard way that they're China-bombs now.

MIchelin does make some tires in China but most commercial truck tires are made in the U.S. or Canada. You can tell where they were made by a plant code on the tire.

That's the one that l absolutely Hate !

Once upon a time , we bought a used XJ that had almost new Michelins .

I blanched at the idea of throwing away almost new $$ tires , but the absolute total lack of traction made it a necessity.

We were both out to the Biggfoot Outpost #1 in the winter , Mrs BF in the XJ , and me in the S-10 w/ Dunlop Rovers . I was doing fine in 2wd , and the Michleins barely stay on the road in 4wd . Replaced them that week .
