I've been retired 11 years now. Generally hit the range about once a month. More if I've got a project going.
I've been accumulating guns for most of my life starting at about 12 years old. I have a good sized collection.
In retirement, I find I shoot a lot of .22LR. Its cheap, fun and easy on my old joints. ;)
In fact, I'm going to the range here in just a little while to try out and sight in my new Ruger Super Wrangler that I recently bought. Gonna take along a couple more .22s and just have a rimfire day. 😁

Actually - that was one thing I was thinking/planning for - shooting more 22LR. I've got a Sig P322, Taurus TX22 compact and a S&W model 63-5 that I think will get a lot more action in retirement.

There's such a thing as having too much. There's such a thing FOR ME as having so much of something that you can't really enjoy it.

I've said this a whole bunch of times but I own less than 10 guns. I shoot less than four of them with any regularity and remember I have a range on my property. If I feel like shooting I grab a gun and a box of ammunition and I walk out the back door and I go shoot.

So I said all that to say that when I look at that photo of the people with the guns laid out all over their patio that's way too much FOR ME to enjoy.

If that's what they want to spend their money on more power to them. I hope and pray that when they die their heirs make those guns vanish into the mist before they even call the coroner.

If the ATF ever comes looking for them I hope they say we have no idea what happened, they were gone before he died.

(And if that's not crystal clear I hope they're lying their asses off when they say that.)

You could say that we are somewhat kindred spirits. I'm retired now but you've been shooting much longer than I have. I started seriously training, practiceing, collecting the summer of 2020. I've realized that there are too many guns and not enough time, or money. But I'm trying to catch up a little bit and have a collection that's part fun range toys, part personal/home protection, and part duty (in case the world goes SHTF).

I call mine a one-of-each collection (NOT one of everything). I doubt that I would ever sell any of my guns. I'd probably give them to my kids first. So I'm a bit choosy when buying guns. I like the odd ducks, the good discontinued models, and quirky things, not really rare. I've told myself that I'm only going to buy one or two more to complete my collection. But we'll see. ;)

This is most of my collection, minus the S&W seven shooter, the .357 Henry, the Sig 1911-X, and maybe one or two more. It's taken me four years to build this little collection. I save up my gig money so I don't spend the house budget or savings.

Since I'm pushing 69 years old, I don't really want to start adding any more calibers, even though 10mm and 5.7 seem like a lot of fun. Same with the big rifles; the AR, AK, 9mm FPC, .22 semi, .357 and .22 levers should get me by.

I think I'll get into accessorizing my collection to make some units more comfortable or functional, grips, scopes, optics, sights, maybe an extended slide release or mag release for the 1911s, more holsters, etc. And there's always ammo to buy.

For example, I think I can find a conversion grip for my 686 Plus and make the "round butt" more of a western looking square butt.

For this I also want to get a Western holster and, with my .357 Henry, maybe have a little cowboy fun at the outdoor range. I'd have to pick up a couple of single action revolvers to take part in any real "cowboy action" contests. Hmmm. 🤔

As you can probalby tell, I'm still quite the noob when it comes to all things firearms. There's so much I want to try but realize that I have to pick and choose carefully. I've been considering an SBR in 9mm, probably a Saint Victor, like my AR. I just keep saving my gig money until it burns a hole in my pocket. :LOL: I gotta quit rambling now. Maybe I'll go somewhere and clean a gun.

Congratulations on your retirement. These folks are right. I keep wondering, how did I ever fit work into my busy schedule? Enjoy!
