Hey everyone,

I just got to see the best of copy in a long time, I was discussing with my dealer today about the MP5 they have in stock and I told them to do me a solid so I could have one but they said no that the price they are offering is very much ok and unfortunately for me due to me always buying I have used up all my coupon codes they have provided me, too bad.

But then they told me about the Century Arms MKE AP5-P which looks just like the MP5 and they told me it shoots just like it as well and it is cheaper, I even had to ask them to send me a picture of it and damn that looks so much like the MP5.

So want to ask has anyone had the chance to shoot one and how does it feel and is it compared to the MP5 even a little bit.

I carried a real MP5 for a while (in the Army) and Ive owned a few real HK weapons. Ive seen some 1990s crap copies; but Im pretty happy with most of the new "made on HK machinery" guns. There nothing wrong with the Century/MKE guns (except that they dont say HK on the frame). If you want only an HK then nothing else will satisfy you BIT if you can live with a clone for MUCH LESS then the Century/MKE guns are fine. PTR makes what may be the best clone; but its more pricey than the Century/MKEs. The MACs also look nice but I dont have any shooting time on them
 
I own three. AP5, AP5-P and the AP5SD and they are an absolute blast. I would recommend you look at genuine HK mags, they seem to be the secret sauce for running all kinds of ammo. Break it in using 124gr NATO for the first 200-300 rounds. The MP5 and clones is not always a fan of running flat nose/defensive ammo. If you have issues, you may need to experiment with different types. My AP5P is funky about flat nosed ammo while my SD will run absolutely everything. The new Magpul brace is actually pretty decent and looks good too.

Does yours have the tri lug under that flash hider. You’ll definitely want to think about suppressing it eventually. Trilug is the way to go.

I found the 9mm FMJ and HP will cycle just fine, the R9 can fits and makes it bit more exciting we'll say.

Also, another funner burp is the HK MP5 .22, LR, it has well over 1000 rounds through it, the 9mm probably hasn't seen 300 rounds yet. I'm surprised there aren't more law suits between manufactures, like Glock and S&W over the S&W 9VE. Guess the Germans don't care what the Turks do, both are allies......

I found the answer to my ignorance of patent infringements, seems HK has given license to MKE to manufacture the clones, not only that, but HK actually makes HK parts to specs and, get this, from the Palmeto pages listing these;

"The SP5K-PDW is semi-automatic civilian sporting version of the ultimate close quarters weapon: The HK MP5K. The "K" designation is from the German word for short, kurz; thus the K model’s shorter barrel and receiver. I do too; but the fact is there are better Sub Guns. The MP5 won the Hollywood war, so everyone wants one. Given a choice Id pick a Colt SMG especially the DOE model. Its a natural transition for anyone whos ever used a M16

If you cut your teeth on a G3, then the MP5 is natural; but if Bruce Willis had used a Colt SMG in Die Hard, wed all be wanting a DOE...

If Im look for something exotic, I might opt for a Sterling or a VZ61
 
I still miss my MP5. My CMMG Banshee is my semi auto surrogate.

I was impressed with SAS use of the MP5 in the Iranian Embassy hostage rescue in 1980 and its use in subsequent operations. I became SWAT commander in my department in 1983 and bought 16 MP5's for the team. At about the sane time we transitioned from revolvers to S&W 669 and 6906 as our issuue handgun. Those MP5's endured more than 40 years of monthly training and deployments until being replaced with M4's in about 2024. Durable and reliable to the end.

Not only are they licensed, but the guns are made on HK tooling.
 
If it hadn't been for my Uncle, Chief of Detectives in the Sherriff's Dept. I wouldn't have an MP5 in my safe.

The best bang for my buck has been the Kuna, not as smooth and tight as the HK but just as accurate with me pulling the trigger. (BTW, have you noticed the price of the Kuna going up?) As to exotics I learned long ago to admire them from a distance, they always turn out to be more expensive than they are worth, like a '58 Jaguar XK 120 roadster, a '94 Bentley Turbo R or my poll dancer from Amsterdam, all were expensive.
