I’m a certified S&W nut and follow numerous S&W and revolver forums and blogs and sites. Still, almost anything they made before around 2000 has been going up faster than I can keep track of. The era that gun falls in (1976) seems to be the hot one now. I’m not sure why, but it is.

For some years now people with very deep pockets have been buying up all kinds of collectible guns at ridiculous prices.
Smith & Wessons, Colts and a few others. GB is full of these guys.
Speculation is that they're buying them as investments. I have to wonder if they know how long it takes for a gun to bring a decent return on its cost? Or that the guns they are buying have already pretty much maxed out at what they're paying for them?
Its getting so that the average gun collector doesn't stand a chance at a nice collectible anymore.

The model 29 is always at the high end of the scale solely because of the Dirty Harry series of movies. I have bought other models in like condition, for a lot less money.

If I was looking at an investment only firearm I would look to the Curio & Relic market. Some of those rifle and handguns have tripled in value in a relatively short time. Uncles Harry's old Luger and Mauser may be worth a lot.
