1980’s Metal bands

Sam Dunn's documentary, Metal: A Headbanger's Journey, and subsequent series, Metal Evolution, is the best historical expose' on the various genre's of "Metal Bands" into the mid-2000's.

His series created the definitive Metal Family Tree(s).

For some "Strange Reason" Donnie & Marie, John Denver and the Jackson Five didn't make it on to the "Tree".

That sure was easier than typing all the bands I listen to! I think there were only two categories where I don’t have something in my collection from - Black Metal and Grindcore. Only reason I have a Morbid Angel CD (Death Metal) is because I won it at a happy hour drawing around 1991. Probably listened to it once, if that.

Well I grew up on both Country and Rock & Roll, so its a long list.

Johnny Cash
Merle Haggard
George and Tammy
Charlie Pride
Buddy Holly
Led Zeppelin
The Rolling Stones
Jimi Hendrix
Otis Redding
MoTown
And the list goes on and on.
You know. When music was actually good. :D
One of the best concerts I had the pleasure of attending was Johnny Cash. Late 70s, maybe? We had the Stones in town, but they were never on my must see group, could not stand Jagger.

Judas Priest
Megadeth
Metallica
Pantara
Dio
Black Sabbath
Ozzy
Iron Maiden
Fkcing Slayer
Anthrax
Ratt*
Motley Crue*
Cinderella*
Queensryche*
Scorpions*
Def Leppard*
Poison*
Dokken*
Twisted Sister*
W.A.S.P.
Halloween
Accept
Mercyful Fate
Guns & Rose's*
Skid Row*

*Considered light or glam/hair metal.

These were some of the best of the Christian Rock bands of the 80's....

Hard Rock/Metal: Leviticus, Saint, Recon, Vengeance Rising, Shout, Mastedon, Mad at the World, X-Sinner, Jerusalem, Messiah Prophet.

Rock/Alternative: The 77s, Rez Band (Resurrection Band), Undercover, The Altar Boys, White Heart, The Choir.

Since the late 60s it has been some form of Rock and carried into all Genres at this point. My favorite thing about streaming music today is, I can wake up and decide Who, What, Time Period and for how long I'm going to listen. Unlike
(Tik Tok, X, Facebook and the many others) it is technology that is worthwhile. Led Zeppelin would probably sit at the top of my list of artists all Genres.
