Get ‘Em While They’re Hot

They don't get any more dead carrying a 5,6,7,10k pistol than they will with my carry pistol.
Maybe you misunderstood my comment, it didn't say I was going all Highpoint or Raven. My carry pistols are very accurate, they never once, failed to go bang or chamber a round. I'll carry my XDM-Elite 3.8" 10mm or .45acp before I carry my Kimber Rapide 10mm.
Heck your cheap gun may be an expensive Wilson or Les Baer. You do you. Both my XDM-Elite are readily available to repurchase, my others are either discontinued or no longer available in my area.
I don't buy firearms I cannot touch first (rule#1), I do not buy firearms over the Internet for any reason, see rule #1.
Gotcha-you’re saying the same thing I am. A Good, reliable handgun👍

Not if it was 90% off if I was required to keep it. For that money I can have at least half a dozen guns I want plus a good supply of starter ammo for each plus components to reload each all I'll ever want to shoot plus nice cases for each plus numerous great Five Guys and Jersey Mike's runs after enjoying range time with each. Oh, and the gas money to get to the range. More power to anyone that wants it. I'll go with my options.

I carry the least expensive gun for self defense. Why? Because if I have to use it for the intended purposes, it's gonna be in the evidence locker room for the duration and then some!
I felt that way for a good while. especially when I had a couple of WC high dollar pistols. The Sig Legion series I have run close to two grand with Sig optics. My preferred EDC is an Sig P-220 Legion SAO 45acp with Romeo X Enclosed Pro optic plus recent action work adds up to over 2500 bucks that's a lot of dough to me. Of course if I had to save my a** or a loved one with it would probably be in an evidence locker for God knows how long. On the other hand if my shoot was deemed unlawful I'd be in jail somewhere and wouldn't worry about it. Do my ramblings make any sense?

To put this into perspective, you are more likely to win the lottery than to need to fire your carry pistol in self defense. But if you need it, you need it very badly and nothing else will quite do. Worrying that your carry gun is going to end up in an evidence room is mostly barracks lawyer fantasy and should be the least of your worries.

Speed, power, and accuracy will determine the outcome, so to keep an edge you need to handle and shoot it a lot in training. Durability and reliability are critical due to the wear and tear you should be giving it on the training range, and carry over to what you are carrying on your hip.

If price is your primary factor in choosing a carry pistol, your priorities are mixed up. It needs to perform without failure in your hands in time of dire need. Although I won't carry a $5k custom for EDC, price is several places down on my EDC priority list.

Choice of a carry pistol is very personal, and serious business. My preference has evolved as manufacturers have advanced their game. I thought I had the epitome of carry pistols with the SIG P220, but then came the Legion SAO with an optic and I had arrived. Then SA shows up with the 1911 TRP CC AOS and it was exactly what I envisioned as the perfect carry pistol for me. I have been shooting the heck out of it and it is hard to imagine what they could do to improve it. I wonder what the next evolution will be?

Love mine too! Maybe offer it with a threaded barrel, so it could do double duty for home defense* with a suppressor added? Just sayin’….

*As my neighborhood continues to degenerate, I suspect my threat will be more likely at home than out and about. Would prefer to protect my and wife’s hearing (dogs too!).
