I Live In Another America, and it's Good.

I feel to end the housing for the homeless make them go to work and get a job! Then they can afford a place to live. Really getting sick and tired for having to pay for these lazy, non working people! My heart does not bleed for them nor do I feel sorry. Just sick and tired of these bloodsuckers.

Lot of homeless are drug dependent or mentaly unstable and cannot hold a job. Rehab facility or mental ward is where quite a few of them belong.
Since they cant hold down a job or housing, they stay on the street.
What happens when we shut down the institutions where a lot belong

Many of them have been shut down for 30plus years. Those that are still open are few and far between. Some are so sick that are on the streets, it honestly is a crime treating the mentally ill screaming about their rights . the worst ones really need to be housed so they can be with others like themselves.
So how it goes when everyone has rights....even those criminally insane. Very sad.

I agree with all of this. I have been involved in working with and around this issue a lot over 15 years.

All of this is true.

However, I was speaking of one specific issue in my county that is political games and was tryign to not get too into teh issue

But, maybe someoen might find it interestng

Erie County, in northwest PA, is quite interesting. It is a very purple county. The city of Erie is a little over 90K and the rest of the county is also around 90, maybe a little more. The city is very democratic, haven't had a Republican mayor in over 60 years. The county is one of the bellwether counties they watch every election cycle, and usually goes the way the country goes. The rest of the area outside of City limits tends to be more Republican and pretty rural, aside from a few pockets of wealthy, liberal folks who vote D.

Well, here, we have a City Council that only effects the City, and then a County Council that effects the whole council, including the City. The City is usually, if not always, all made of Democrats, while County Council is pretty mixed.

Now, to bring us to what I was talking about.

Several years ago, a we had a pretty conservative guy on County Councils that was despised by the Dems and they fought him on everything. He was actually the County Executive.
Well, he got federal money to build these tiny homes, I think 16, for temporary housing for homeless.

Got the money, got them all built. They are sitting on property owned by the County, but on City limits. The City is refusing them to be allowed to be sued saying the County Executive never secured the proper permits and that there is money needed to finish and maintain the homes.

We now have new administration in both County and City and they are all Dem ran and they are now saying they don't have the money to finish and maintain them.

Of course, the former Executive is saying that he did submit everything for the permits and allocated one of the well known non-profits in the City the necessary funds.

So now we have these 16 houses just sitting, not getting used, while we have a horrendous homelessness problems, and everyone just playing politics.

It's your classic case of Democrats pretending they care about thier constituents but all they really care about is thier vote

Just a for your info….. if I recall correctly Rick Filippi was a Republican mayor. Won’t comment about the bad press he got.
