Sad news since it was a young guy.

Out of area folks need to be careful when visiting the western 1/2 of Montana (especially in the Glacier NP/Bob Marshall area as well as the large areas east of I-15 to Yellowstone NP) that's griz country.

When I was stationed at Malmstrom AFH in Great Falls in the early 90’s it seems there were one or two people on average killed a year and several other seriously injured at Glacier alone.

I don’t know the specifics here and a few have probably been uncanny luck, but the majority of those killed were trying to get to close to the bears.

Please don't feed the animals, pet the animals, nor get anywhere near close enough to them to do either.

Back in 2013 I was hiking in Grand Teton National Park and encountered mama grizzly and her 2 almost adult cubs. I stopped in my tracks to see which direction they were headed. Fortunately, they were slowly moving away from me. You can bet I was very bear aware for the rest of the hike. I did have bear spray with me.
