SA-35 safety and other ?

LDB

Master Class
I haven't carried condition one in a quarter century or so and then it was a 1911 with thumb safety and grip safety. To confirm what I think I see, the SA-35 has just the thumb safety? Back then I carried in a belt holster. Now I pocket carry. Thoughts on pocket carry of an SA-35? And on Buffalo Bore +P+ level ammo, not for a steady diet, just for carry. Range time would be generic no pluses stuff. Thanks for the input.

Yes, the SA-35 just has the one thumb safety. I believe they did a great job with it too. Best designed safety lever I've ever seen on any Hi-Power. (y)
Pocket carry? The SA-35 is a full sized, double stack service pistol. I don't think anybody makes pockets that big.

This. No problem with safety on a belt carry, but don’t think you could find pockets that’d work for a pistol that large. I carried an Sig 938 cocked and locked in a pocket for years-no issues-safety never came “off” accidentally. (And if it for some reasonHAD, you’re still in the shape of those who carry striker pocket guns without a manual safety.

I know some of the 5.11 pants I use for work have deep enough pockets to carry a fullsize. Biggest issue is getting a holster designed around it. Another problem is the commander hammer style might tear through the pocket overtime. I pocket carry a Walther PP quite a bit and found the hammer if not secured will eventually tear a hole.

Mika makes the best pocket holster available. I have them for the 3 Rugers. The two .357 share the same one, the smaller SP101 has its own. Never a problem in a baker's dozen years carrying this way with tears or wearing through. So hopefully the trend would continue. Just want to be comfortable the thumb safety alone is sufficient.

I Have carried SIG SAO pistols and 1911's in Condition 1 in OWB holsters for years. On a few occasions I have discovered my safety had unbeknownst to me become moved to the "fire" position in the holster. While it should not be a real problem if you practice strict trigger discipline, still disconcerting. Tightening up the spring pressure on the safety can help-you should get a positive "snap" when moving the safety lever. I would not carry any loaded firearm in a pocket without a holster that protects the trigger.

I have gravitated back to a 1911 as my EDC, in part because it has a grip safety. Peace of mind in worth a lot.

I don’t think it a problem in a decent holster. If it’s just holstered pistol in a holster in the pocket there’s nothing to knock the safety off, and even if it did, there’s still nothing to trip the trigger. I holster my pocket hammer guns (and my owb hammer guns) with a thumb on/in the hammer but that’s just a habit.

I am extremely good with trigger, muzzle pointing, etc. discipline even if I do immodestly say so myself. And nothing goes in the cargo pocket with the EDC. And although I felt 99+% confident already it is nice to hear affirmations. Not sure when this may happen but if/when I will do it feeling ok with my decision.

Just remember all the kewl kats who cheerfully stuff a cocked or semi cocked striker fired gun with NO safety into their pockets or appendix holster🙄. You’ll be fine!

For me a Hi powers are a little big for Pocket Carry.

As far as the ammo you should be fine with moderate use.

I am not asking but for me I’d ask if is there a specific reason one would want that particular plus p plus?

Most of it the juice isn’t worth the squeeze as you will sometimes get better penetration with standard tjan even okus p. A lot of the plus p and especially plus p plus the expansion can effect the penetration and thwre is a balance

Good luck

Gun is too big for pocket carry. You have to be crazy to do it.
Well, call me crazy. I carry one of these EDC
2.5" 7-shot .357 GP100
2.75" 6-shot .357 Speed-Six
3" 6-shot .327 SP101
3 DA Rugers.jpeg

The SA-35 would be no different. Another sensible choice for one not too weak to manage it. Piece of cake.

Cargo pants pocket. Tru-Spec until they quit 100% cotton. Now LAPG. Always in those Mika holsters. The only way to travel. Well equipped. Nothing clown about them.
