Britain is the same as it’s always been. It exists in a never ending state of decline - they just change the cause of the decline about every ten years. It has been this way consistently since before WW1. I think to expect it to be any different is a fools errand. Unfortunately, when the foundation of your country is a myriad of other cultures other than your own and you are deep down an extremely xenophobic country, most people are unhappy most of the times. But truthfully, all the things that are distinctly English - beautiful countryside rich in history, many of the most beautiful cities in the world, amazing cuisine (despite what the country of the hamburger and hot dog thinks!), fantastic arts and literature and, of course, fish and chips and a bloody good cup of tea. My parents left because the country was going downhill - again. I left, chasing the sun, but I could quite happily make my way back yet.Well they are/were a pretty common side, at least the last time I was there. I will admit, I was a bit skeptical of them at first; but I like "regular" peas so I gave it a try and liked it.
I was (and I guess still am a huge Anglophile, even wrote letters to the Ministry of Defense about wanting to join The Army. Sadly (at the time) it wasnt possible. This was in my adventurous period, had a big argument with Mom & Dad when I announced I wanted to drop out of University to go to Rhodesia...lots of tears (some even from Mom); ended up in US Army but did get to spend some time with the Brits. It always bothered me that I missed the Falklands with the Paras at Goose Green
Sadly Britain isnt Britain anymore
