Truck Guns

I didnt bring up AK’s at all. Nor would I. You are correct in your statement but it has no bearing on our discussion.
My statement said officers proficiency at 50m is dismal and few and far between. That is a correct statement
My apologies the AK part was added in reference to another post. It wasnt directed at you.

IF 50m is too far to expect to make body shots; I dont think it is; but if some do, how'bout 25meters? That certainly seems do-able with a duty size handgun. Add a red dot and longer is easy

A draco on a sling isn't the worst truck gun you could choose. Pushed out against the sling is a decent stock alternative. The power of 7.62 or 5.45 would be real bonuses as well for fighting around vehicles. But rifle rounds cracked off in enclosed spaces is a recipe for blown ear drums. That's maybe the largest downside IMO, the danger to the user.

Which really pushes me to the Kuna and Stribogs for vehicle guns.

The police that can hit at 50m as you state are few and far between.
They dont train enough nor does the dept peovide them the ammunition nor time to do so

Depends on the department.

Depends on the department.
AND the officer.

When I started as an MP everyone in my class had shot before. When I switched to local PD maybe 6 out of 60 had never shot any gun before. When I retired maybe 6 out of 60 had actually held a real gun. Its a sad state; but at least the instructors didnt have to UN-teach bad techniques

When I started with the PD every cop took his gun home at night. When I retired maybe 30% left their gun at the station.

I recall a conversation I was having with a veteran officer about ARs; a new kid overheard us and asked why we would want something like a AR. We both looked at him and said, "for people that dont think we should have them..."

True, but if you take an avg dept sample, vast majority dont care about weapon proficiency or better training. The truly well qualified above basic standards are minority. As are we, as civilians who train
Well I guess average, is hmmm lets see, well average. That may be OK for cops because they have to set some standard; but if you are a civilian who is gonna insert yourself into a Active Shooter incident, then I hope you are above average. Otherwise no ears for YOU....

No one can say whether they will respond or not. Like life, it changes daily. Insterting oneself in a conversation or shooting is dependent on immediate circumstance. You apparantly of all people know that .
The avg citizen nor leo practices the craft of shooting. Fact.
Those that do are the less than 10%ers. Fact

Go back to dreaming of rhodesia

Yes sadly, few are interested enough to continuously practice, and yet some do. When I was a working cop, I did my best to make it to the range once a month. It didnt always happen because of work and family matters.

I took every firearms course the department offered and paid for several "Civilian" courses, that I had to use leave days and travel to take. There werent a lot of us that did; but I also shot with guys that wore "Presidents 100" tabs and one Olympic shooter. I also shot at the 95 and 96 Secret Service matches.

Square range and paper targets are one thing. Force on Force with Simunitions, changes tactics and mindsets

It no different from any other job. Some guys are good and work to improve their skills and some are content with average. The next time you go to the doctor, ten other guys couldnt get into medical school because of quotas; but maybe just maybe your guy is really good. Cops are no different. When I started the hiring policy was to hire the best of the available applicants, when I retired the policy was changed to hiring applicants that fit the community. Maybe they are good and maybe they just look like the community. I know some guys who didnt get hired because of the policy that said we have enough that look like them

...and yeah I do dream of Rhodesia; but you say it like thats a bad thing???
