So I've been searching everywhere for something like a fishing vest or a tactical vest that I can carry my canik mete sfx and a couple extra mags and be able to carry some other gear for fishing and survival. While I'm on my kayak, I thought about getting a plate carrier and modifying that with some kind of buoyant material instead of plate, but it just doesn't seem like it'll be comfortable for a long time I've looked at fishing vest but they just don't suit it. I fish and tournaments from my kayak so I'm required to wear a life vest too. I'm kind of stuck on what to do because I need my pistol secured while I'm on the water. I'm at the point now. I'm ready to just make something from scratch. Any ideas?

Be sure that whatever you decide on Securely holds the weapon. You get swamped or turn over and wind up in a physically demanding situation you don’t want to see your firearm drop into the drink. One of the ancient “pistol lanyard systems would be great if your pistol is so equipped. i had a 351 PD in .22 Mag that was carried in a decent holster and had a lanyard secured to it and my belt. If I had dropped it, it wouldn’t have gone far.
 
I have owned a couple boats in Florida. I routinely wear a holster on the boat but put the gun, magazines, phone, wallet, and car keys in a water proof small Pelican case or dry bag. You can tether it to your boat or to a float. In a kayak or any moving boat I would always wear a mustang inflatable vest so wearing a holstered gun is cumbersome. If you want the LBV route, Have a look at the load bearing tactical life vests Florida Marine Patrol, sheriffs marine patrols and coast guard wear. They have attachment points where you could attach a chest holster. If I were on duty on the water that is the route I would take but those vests can get hot.
 
So to answer everybody's question in 1 I'm in South Carolina and some of the waterways that I go on have numerous hunting clubs and people just have no courtesy on the water. I had a guy flip me a week or so back and actually lost the pistol in the water that was in a hip holster somehow or another when I went over the gun come undone. I'm looking for something that I can secure a holster to my chest for easy Access another thing about these Waters while a bino case would probably work I don't have enough access to it in a pinch. I've had to defend myself three or four times already on the water. I do wear Kevlar but I fish strictly in rivers I want something that's basically a life vest but also a plate carry system. I'm actually thinking about just building what I want and actually getting it patented. I already own a couple of businesses but I want it on my chest because I sit in my kayak. I have it on my hip or just secured on the boat isn't what I look for. I want everything possible on me that way if I am tanked to a capsized or flipped or rolled or hit. I'm capable of not losing so much stuff now. I even strapped my fishing rods via linear to my ankle. I've seen guys on the river down here flying down the river full speed and shooting into the riverbank as they go and being in the backwaters some people get hostile thinking they own the water too and that's happened more than I can count some of the places I've been fishing. DNR has actually asked me if I was armed or not for my safety
 
You could try something like this? Otherwise change guns, put it in a pelican case or something akin to a camelbak?

You’ve “had to defend yourself 3 or 4 times” in the places you go, yet keep going back? May I respectfully suggest you need to find another place to play? If it’s that dangerous and you continue to go there for recreation there will be a bad outcome sooner or later..

So you're saying you lost your gun in a boating accident?
 
I'm wondering if maybe you could use a plate carrier and put some sort of buoyant material in the plate pockets? Would it be enough to keep you afloat if you went in? A good plate carrier would have all kinds of attachments for various equipment on the outside.

I agree with Shibadog, time to find another place. :rolleyes:
 
I'd suggest getting a pistol lanyard.

Many "poly" pistols have a little hole in the bottom of the grip to attach one to.

Also, you can rig up a little key ring thingy to that hole to allow the use of a single-point bungee sling.
