If you remember

Do you remember the ORIGINAL Dawn of the Dead movie? It was a sequel to Night of the Living Dead. "Dawn" was filmed at the Monroeville Mall in PA. That was at a time when shopping centers closed at 9pm on Saturdays and reopened on Monday morning. The filming was done during the down time.

The mall still exists and even has a mini "Dawn" exhibit BUT there is a Comic Con type convention scheduled for this June. All the stars will be there. So if you think this is silly I get it; but it was a major film in the Zombie genre.

This may be the farewell as the mall has been sold, and its future is in question.

There are actually two versions of Dawn of the Dead. The original was made in 1978 and featured a relatively unknown cast. It was re-made in 2004 staring Sarah Polley and Ving Rhames.
In both, a small group of survivors takes refuge in a local shopping mall. Most of the characters remain the same as does most of the story. Only a few small changes in the remake.
The original has its charms and has a low budget look closer to the the Night of the Living Dead. But I've always preferred the re-make as it has a better production and special effects.
Either way, these movies were a major step in the Zombie genre. Romero was a genius. (y)
I kinda wish I could go.

Yes the remake was good BUT it introduced "Track Team Zombies" I didnt like the way they moved so fast. I always figured I could out maneuver the originals but fast running zombies are scary and yet somehow less realistic....

They brought back the main actors from the original in the remake, all except for Gaylen Ross. She was working on another project, so they named one of the stores after her.

The DVD included an extra disk with a special short about ANDY from the gun shop.

Damn I know too much about Dawn of the Dead.
