Anyone remember the TV series 24?

I missed it when it originally aired, then saw all the seasons on DVD. I had all but forgotten it and stumbled on to it last night. Lots of fun memories. I loved the "Real Time" concept. Each episode was filmed so it would match the clock, if it was 22 minutes after the hour in the show, your real clock at home showed 22 minutes after the hour. Each season was 24 episodes of one hour each starting at midnite, making a 24 hour period.

It aired starting in November 2001 at the height of "they want to kill us and we want to kill them first" period. Now of course they still want to kill us; but so many are more worried about other issues. Jack Bauer was the cool counter terror agent who didnt mind killing the bad guys and cutting off the occasional dead guys finger if it meant getting access to encrypted files. He was also a trend setter as he frequently carried a Lap Top bag with all his gear.

On a side note it brought Dennis Haysbert into prominence. He would later star in The Unit as MSG Blaine "Snake Doctor"

Yes, I do. I heard about the series via a workplace conversation. I rushed to "catch up" and then faithfully watched through the end of the series... It was mostly a very enjoyable "thriller series", although, like many TV series, in my opinion, they got lax in their script writing efforts after the initial success of the series.

I think it was also politics that changed the show. By the end of the run 2010, Hollywood no longer wanted a Kill the Bad Guy image and gee who became president in 2009...

The Unit started in 2006 and ended 4 years later. There missions changed from Kill the Taliban to domestic threats and gee who became president in 2009???

Used to the "Good Guy" image I just about fell out of my chair when Jack Bauer shot a Man's wife in the leg when the "Bad Guy "wouldn't talk. THEN he talked"

There was a definite "reorientation for PC purposes" in the plots of 24 episodes as time progressed. And it was NOT subtle, not one little bit.

Ditto for The Unit re: PC reorientation and pretty thin plots.

It's kind of sad when a good "thriller" series gets "milked into oblivion" instead of drawn to logical and orderly conclusion.

Too many times politics comes into play, plots get watered down, and weapons themselves become “evil/scary”. Gotta indoctrinate the masses…

EXACTLY

The Man from UNCLE started off with their version of a P38K; but to appease TV censors they "loaded" the guns for the second season with tranquillizer darts to lessen the violence and that was in the 60s
