Thoughts on 300 Black Out?

I like 300 Black, both Super and Subsonic. I think its a decent round with the option for very quiet and conventional use WITHIN its capabilities.....generally I think of the supersonic rounds being in the 30-30 or 762x39 power range AND quiet like a suppressed 45acp but with a range of say 100m when suppressed. I also like that it functions and performs well with sub 10" barrels, unlike 5.56.

Ive "heard" a 7 to 8 inch barrel is optimal; but Im wondering if a shorter barrel. say 5 inches will still perform within 50 meters?

i have 2 that are 8.5" barrels and 1 16" (just for testing), but only shoot supers (i don't own any suppressors as of yet). i reload there for i am  . what i'm testing is weights from 110-185gr for the 8.5's that have a muzzle energy @ 1k regardless of weight(s). with having a (more like 5) chrono's i'll be able to confirm such? 8-10" i'd think is the best way especially for subs as a 16" might cause a squib the heavier you go? the lack of powder and even less pressure will be the cause of the issue

300blkout is expensive to shoot. I feel little difference in recoil between it and 556. For me, living in an urban/suburban area, I still like 300blkout - SBR 9.5" barrel. Right now, I do not have it set up to run suppressed, but I like supers coming out of it - max powder burn/velocity out of the short barrel and hits hard at less than 100 yds. I have essentially the same rifle in 556 (w/ an 11.5" barrel) - both are for shorter distances. If I had to use one for home defense, I'd go 300blk over the 556 for greater bullet weight with velocity. If I lived in a rural area, I could probably ditch 300blkout and be ok - maybe swap 300blkout out and add .308.

Never paid any attention to the 300 BO since it really doesn't fit into my AOPs situation, and I have those requirements well covered.

You really don't see it much in my area, other than an odd niche cartridges.

And I already have .30/30 & & 7.62x39 platforms to cover that performance area.

But I can see others may find it useful, in spite of it's niche role.

My .02

I am waiting to see if they completely do away with having to do any paperwork for an SBR and can, then, if they do, I will be getting one in 300.
I thought I had read 10 inch barrel was what they were designed for. Maybe I'm wrong 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️
But a 10inch or less suppressed SBR shooting subsonic rounds is my dream

Im pretty sure 8-9" is considered optimum but Ive heard the military which originally went with something shorter is now considering a tad bit longer "Who Knows?"

My thought was something shorter than 8 inches to fit in a back pack; but now Im questioning that "Who Knows?" Hahaha

Have three guns in 300 blackout
8" AR pistol, 16" AR rifle and a Ruger American Ranch.
My 300 AR pistol was my truck gun for a while. Moved on to a Century Draco NAK9 because of compatibility with Glock magazines. Have moved on from that recently

Have a 16" and 10" 300 AR platforms, got the can for 300 for some quiet shooting, then realized I have 5.56 in both lengths along with longer 308's and I've decided I can be quiet enough with a can with the 5.56 and my 9mm's the H&K or the Kuna, so I don't need them really. I think the 300 BO is a whim that plays no significant difference!
