testtest

This Is Truly Disturbing

Not to be too obvious, but how in Hades do you graduate (or even get promoted from grade school) high school when you can’t do basics?
Because public schools teachers get "evaluated" by the students that get promoted. If a teacher fails too many they get poor evaluations. Heck we have students who cant read or speak English in class which slows down the instruction to English speaking kids, while the teacher tried to explain the subject to the non English speakers....then there are the "retarded" kids in the same classroom (but OMG dont call them retarded). The same schools were forced to put litter boxes in the kids bathrooms for the ones that identify as "furries".

I homeschooled 2 of mine. My son had a 3 grade reading level in the 6 grade but made straight A’s and passed all his standardized test ( with the help of the teachers by giving the students the answers). I got him caught up on his reading and he went to a local community to take a few classes to get ready for his GED. He got his GED and went to work at 16. This is the only way that I can see how to change the system. The school loses money on every kid that is homeschooled.
I’ve never been personally involved in any homeschooling, one way or the other, but did have an officer I worked with whose wife homeschooled their 11 (ELEVEN) kids. They all seemed to do very well, not to mention they were close enough together they were able to compete in many sports as their own team 😂. One just recently ran for Congressional representative (didn’t make the run off).

I do think more kids should get introduced to the trades at younger ages like we used to (I’m sure a lot of us remember “shop” class).

What amazes me is that the public schools here in Texas whine about vouchers where parents can take what the public school would have gotten and send their kids to a place they can actually get an education. They complain it takes necessary money from the public schools without one single mention of how they are going to better those public schools with that money. My bet is that it ALL goes to union dues and salaries.

If a public school district would present a plan on how they would bring their district up to standards (quickly), i suspect they’d get more support. And I also know there ARE good teachers in public schools, my daughter is one of them…though, unfortunately, she currently has the class with numerous non-English speakers (from around the world, not just from South of the US border). Somehow she gets through it and keeps her spirit up, but I think that’s because she has enough smart kids that place well in science competitions so she knows she making a difference!

Hmmm, lets start with I dont think folks without kids should be forced to pay a school tax as part of their property taxes; but then I have a lot of issues with where my tax money goes.

On this topic, I think kids should have to test to get into High School. Those that dont make the "grade" should be diverted to trade jobs schools where they receive training in those subjects. There are plenty of jobs for kids without Chemistry and Trigonometry and Calculus and Physics or Shakespeare

Kids with clear learning disabilities when placed in classes with "regular" kids cause the teacher to divert teaching time to the slower kids and away from the kids with the greater potential. Its a lose lose situation. If the slower kids were grouped together they could receive teaching at their level without diverting from the other kids.

The same for non English speaking kids. Put them in English classes UNTI they can speak ENGLISH, then start them a First Grade without regard to their age. Without conversational English they cant compete. Allowing them to move along without English skills is a disservice to them and the U.S.

Oh and then College show be about LEARNING not SPORTS. Drop all college sports. If kids wanna play professional basket ball then let the NBA start a minor league and the same for football.

Im gonna add that military show have some say, perhaps with vets teaching a mandatory class on service and patriotism, so the kids learn their place in the world was bought for them by VETERANS; but then i dont think you should be able to vote if you havent served in the military

I could get behind a good bit of that.

I think it was Pratt made the comment that if elected Mayor of LA he’d run a spreadsheet demonstrating where every cent of tax dollars went - what a great idea for the Feds! Not to mention State and local government bodies.

I know in 1973 we had to “test” to get into High School. Finals in all classes of 9th grade (my HS was 10-12). No pass, no promotion (or summer school followed by a retest)

Too many doo gooders conflate learning disabilities with persecution. There is nothing to be ashamed of with learning disabilities and concur it detracts greatly from rest of class moving forward (or moving the learning disabled on too quickly without proper education). My youngest was in reading programs most of school time through junior high. We worked with her at home constantly (made for some wonderful “discussions” during her teen age angst years). She now has a Masters Degree in Sociology from a prestigious Catholic University and works for a non-profit assisting disabled adults.

Couldn’t agree more with the non-English speaking kids philosophy. I can’t imagine age (within reason) or Nationality would make it much different to learn English thoroughly and from the beginning. Adults students in such a setting may even help the younger students learn more quickly.

100% concur college sports is out of control.

As a 28 year active duty Vet, I kind of disagree with a bit here. The classes on Patriotism and Service wouldn’t hurt, but just that part shouldn’t be mandatory. I think they should be part of semester in upper high school of CIVICS like we all had to take and pass back in the day to graduate High School.

As for the voting, I do think all US Citizens who have followed the rules through adulthood should be able to vote. Many of us Vets look proudly at our service time as providing those who couldn’t/wouldn’t serve with their freedoms. I see voting as one of those freedoms. I would rather explore ways to get out MORE voters (and perhaps work on voter education somehow, where knowledge forms opinions and not party/race/gender, etc.). That education “could” be part of a curriculum throughout the education journey, however that would require a “non indoctrination” environment.

I do 100% believe in voter ID, confirmed voter rolls, limiting mail-in ballots to those who actually “require” it, and having ALL votes tallied by the end of Election Day (or minimally, day after). Weeks and weeks of counting ballots is stupid - yes, I’m looking at you California!

Here you go again, making friends everywhere. I take offense to your take on trade school for those that aren't "like you". I have a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. I've never used it except to get out of some required classes in trade schools. I've never had a white collar job in my life, because all the blue collar careers I've had paid a lot more than having some college degree requiring white collar jobs out there. My son has a Master's Degree and two Bachelor's Degrees and know what? He works at a blue collar job because that is where the money is at. And your idea about veterans only being able to vote? Not the brightest idea. What about those who have physical disabilities and can't serve in the military? Or those whose religions might prohibit it? I myself served in two branches of the military. Does that mean I can vote twice under your requirements?

Only if you're a Democrat. 😁

AND here YOU go not reading what I wrote. Theres NO shame in blue collar jobs and no one with a college degres should look down upon a blue collar worker, especially if they cant figure out how to change the oil in their BMW.

As for voting, a review of history will show that originally only landowners could vote. The idea being that owning property gave you a connection to wanting to make the state/country better. It was not a birth right gift for the founding fathers. Those not happy with military service, might then consider some type of service a requirement

Right now learning a trade pays way better that a college education especially if you are involved in ojt. You don’t have a second mortgage to pay ( the college degree you have). With in a few years you usually making more money than someone with a college education.

My wife and I were in a Maggiano's for dinner last night. We were talking about how she was in one eyeglass store yesterday and the young lady she was talking to was saying something about a special day, my wife thought she was talking about D-Day and asked her if that was what she was referring to. The young lady didn't know what she was talking about and didn't know about D-Day. My wife explained it to her. So, we are getting ready to pay our bill at the restaurant, and the waitress struck up a conversation with my wife. My wife asked her is she knew what D-Day was. The waitress said she didn't. During the course of the conversation, she said that she was born in 1997 and that wasn't taught in the schools. This is the problem with our "education" system. It has become an anti-American indoctrination factory. Colleges no longer are about education, they are about indoctrination and money.

However, where we really went wrong as a society, is when we bought into the "you will never make anything out of yourself unless you go to college" mantra. Parents encouraged looking down on the Trades and blue collar work, believing that true success could only come from a college degree.

Not all think that way.
Most of Rural America does not. Not all city dwellers either.
My brothers 2 kids are going into hvac and plumbing.
My son is deciding college is not for him and possibly doing the same.
My daughters college degree is directly tied to agriculture and she has offers out the wazoo for work in the Ag Science field. She decided on a Masters In Ag Science and is going back to school
