Newbie First Time Buyer

Greetings. I just bought my first handgun an Echelon 4.0c and I am currently on my 10 day waiting period here in Cali. I am having a hard time finding a proper, good, tailored, holster recommendation for either side carry or iwb. I am left handed so that may be part of my issue but that's also why I chose Echelon for its ambi nature.

Your recommendations would be greatly appreciated and/or any other accessories that would complement my incoming Echelon.

I recommend Blackpoint Tactical or OnPoint holsters. I have been using both outside the waistband holsters for years and they have given me great service. I have found the leather wing holsters to be most comfortable.

Welcome to the forum from the Wild Wild Upper Midwest! I'm glad you joined us. Pull up a chair so's we can chat a bit. ;)

I liked my Echelon 4.5F Comp so much that I bought another, a the 5.28" Threaded barrel model. I know you can't get threaded barrels in CA because I used to live there, until about 4 years ago. I still managed to obtain my CCW, practiced and trained as much as possible. I did tire of the "roster" and the "gun jail" and the "featureless" rifles, etc. Don't get me started. It's a beautiful state with lots of beautiful people. There came a time when nothing was holding me there so I left all the crime, high taxes, overcrowding, homeless, traffic, yada, yada, blah, blah, blah. Sorry. What were we talking about? Oh yea, holsters.

My favorite holster is the IWB units from Rounded Gear (Concealment Express), They are simple kydex holsters that, with a couple of small modifications, really get the job done. They also make OWB units if you're not going to carry concealed, like a "paddle" holster (clips on your belt) or "belt loop" holster.

You can order either of these for the left hand. If you're going IWB, I always add a muzzle pad (for comfort) and DCC clips (metal, for stability) to the holster...

If you use a muzzle pad, it not only makes the holster more comfortable, it also pushes the grip into your body more so you don't have to add an overpriced "claw" to your holster.

The DCC clips replace the plastic belt clip on your standard kydex holster, and they really grip your belt. You'll want a good gun belt too, Kore, Hank's, or similar. A regular street belt just won't do.

I enjoy all of my Springfield units also because of the ambidextrous nature of their design. I like using my trigger finger on the mag release because I can keep my grip when performing quick mag changes. Reaching the mag release with my thumb is just a little awkward and slower when running drills and training exercises.

I personally like leather holsters. But I need a holster for a SA Prodigy 3.5, which 9/10 holster makers don't yet have the gun mold for. It's obvious that gun manufacturers produce guns guns faster than gun molds are made available.

I researched for days and found a kydex holster company called Indy Concealment in IN. Family owned and great communication. They offer days tun around instead of weeks or months.

I also have a custom leather holster maker who agreed to make making me a custom leather holster for the 3.5, but I probably won't receive it until July or August, he's so busy. It will be custom as he's using a gun mold from a Stacatto CS 2023 which has the same dimensions as the SA 3.5.

There are severa0l manufacturers out there that make holsters for the Echelon 4.0C, as it is quickly becoming a popular firearm. I got a leather hybrid IWB/OWB holster from Hidden Hybrid Holsters. There are also others out there like Crossbreed, Mernickle Leather, Blackpoint, just to name a few. Welcome to the forum and good luck in your holster search.

LOL yep typical Cali roster stuff. It's a mine field of crap that makes whatever path of ownership confusing, daunting, and arduous. Appreciate the good reads and reference, tyty.
 
Holsters are super personal and there is no wrong answer, just the one that works for you. But my preferred carry method as of late has been a PHLSTER Enigma. It can be worn with *anything* and is completely clothing agnostic. I am big on indexing and ensuring things are in the same spot for muscle memory and the Enigma has been the absolute best for that IMO. It's also very comfortable and long periods of wear do not phase me with it. I also strongly believe you need to be able to stand up, sit down, lay down, run, jump etc without your gun falling out or hindering you.

So if you wear varied clothes often, the Enigma might be the answer. I like the familiarity, security, stability and comfort the Enigma has brought to the table. It can be modified and configured in multiple different ways and is ambidextrous as well. It's more of a system compared to just a holster but the system works and works well IMO.

I can also vouch for DCC Monoblocks being one of the best clips to reach for, and they're easy to swap onto anything pretty much. Also the PHLster Flat wedge makes a HUGE difference. This is my setup. I've found this comfortable pretty much 24/7.

Thanks for sharing your rig. That's a great looking setup. My 'Rounded Gear' holster, DCC clips, and T1C muzzle pad look like this.

That's my Echelon 4.5F Comp. All of my IWB carry guns get the same setup. It's what works for me, and is quite economical. But the choices are almost endless.

Has anyone told the OP that most of us have a whole drawer, or maybe a closet, full of holsters? I've gone through a few and realized that they didn't work so well for me. Live and learn.
